How often you should really masturbate to be healthy as man made ‘dangerous’ discovery doing it every day for a week

We all have our own idea of what a 'healthy' amount of self-gratification is, but some people indulge in this practice a lot more than others.

Masturbation is a 'common part of human sexuality', according to experts such as Dr Sham Singh, who previously discussed the 'numerous psychological and physical advantages' it can bring.

However, spending too much time doing this can also be detrimental - as content creator Chris Ivan found out after trying out gooning for an entire week.

This sex trend, which involves masturbating until you almost reach climax before abruptly stopping to enjoy the feeling, often becomes quite addictive for those who take part.

Chris confessed that he found it increasingly difficult to battle the urge as the week went on, despite the fact he soon discovered that the prospect of watching porn and pleasuring himself wasn't even 'exciting' him anymore.

After the seven-day experiment came to an end, he told his YouTube subscribers that his 'quality of life' was much better without masturbating in excess.

Those of us who aren't interested in gooning might be left wondering what exactly masturbating in excess looks like after hearing Chris' thoughts...but thankfully, an expert has weighed in on the topic.

Dr Jen Caudle, who specialises in family medicine, shared her thoughts on how much is too much in a YouTube video which she previously shared.

The medical expert and content creator clarified that 'masturbation is perfectly fine' and described it as a 'very healthy part of overall life and fulfilment'.

And in her eyes, there is no 'top limit threshold'.

Dr Caudle said in her opinion, it only becomes a problem when it starts to 'interfere with your daily life' (Getty Stock Image)

"It's nothing like, 'Oh you can't masturbate more than this amount of times'," Dr Caudle said. "There's not a lower threshold, there's not a number of times in a day, a week, a month."

The health professional explained that when it comes to self-pleasure, it really is a case of different strokes for different folks.

"Certain people masturbate multiple times a day," Dr Caudle went on. "Some people masturbate only certain times every few months, depending on whatever.

"Some people masturbate when they're in a certain mood, some people masturbate at other times, it just depends."

However, there is one small caveat that she wanted to mention.

Dr Caudle continued: "The only caveat [is], you can masturbate as much as you want so long as it doesn't interfere with your daily life; it doesn't interfere with your mental wellbeing, it does not interfere with your relationships; interfere with your ability to go to your job or lead a happy, healthy, productive."

She reiterated that there's no real set maximum number of times you should do it in a set amount of time, though that if you notice the habit affecting your life, it's worth stepping back.

"In certain situations you can see how masturbation becomes compulsive, in which case we say that you need to be evaluated, you need to discuss this with a licensed professional," Dr Caudle added.

As Chris mentioned in the video of him documenting his experiment, he began to struggle to get through the day because his mind was elsewhere.

So, although it's completely up to you how much you masturbate - remember to rein it in if it suddenly starts dictating your daily life.
