Shia LaBeouf has explained what led to a fight with a co-star, who was also his mentor for years.
In the upcoming documentary Megadoc, the actor revealed that he had a significant falling out with someone whose opinion he cherished growing up.
The person did not talk to LaBeouf for years after the incident, which he claims was caused by a difference in political beliefs.
However, the pair were forced to come together when they made Megalopolis in 2024, helping them to patch things up.

The pair had been close since starring in the hit US film Holes, and then Transformers when LaBeouf was older.
The co-star even introduced the teen to Dustin Hoffman’s discography, leading him to learn to love the craft of making movies.
“He was like my mentor from a young age,” LaBeouf said of his co-star as per Variety.

“He was like the first real actor I ever met, and he’s the first one who put me on to [Dustin] Hoffman’s repertoire… He would sit in a room with me and watch all these movies back to back, and [that] made me fall in love with the process and the craft, because before that, I was just a poor kid making money.”

That man was Jon Voight.
The pair teamed up for their film last year, breaking years of silence between the two.
“The first version [of the script] I read was about five years ago. [Francis Ford Coppola] did a table read. And in the time from that read to this film, I had basically f***** my whole life up,” LaBeouf said.
Reflecting on that time, he said he had to put their problems aside when they worked together again, stating: “I was in the midst of doing my ninth step in this program I’m in, and I had to go make amends to Voight because Voight’s politics and mine are very different. I love him very much.”

LaBeouf and Voight first worked together in 2003 and again in 2007.
But Voight became a known Donald Trump supporter and was even named one of Trump’s special envoys to Hollywood along with Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson.
As for how the fight came about, the actor explained: “We had a big fight on the phone where I told him I was going to come to his house and we were going to fist fight, and I hung up the phone. Didn’t talk to him for years.”
The film is a science fiction drama with an A-list cast such as Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, LaBeouf, Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D. B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.
It’s set in an alternate 21st-century New York City, which sees architect Cesar Catilina (Driver) clash with corrupt Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Esposito), who doesn't see the vision of rebuilding the utopia, Megalopolis.

It’s supposed to draw parallels between the fall of the Roman Republic and the future of the United States.
