Twenty-Two-Year-Old Instagrammer Thinks Learning About WWII Could Affect Kids' Mental Health

A 22-year-old Instagram influencer left the Good Morning Britain team baffled after explaining to the show that he thinks that learning about World War Two could affect kids' mental health.

That might sound basically like a list of keywords designed to wind folks up, but there is a genuine message here.

That is, that The Circle contestant Freddie Bentley thinks that learning about the horrors of the Second World War, a conflict that claimed the lives of around 80 million people and indisputably changed the history of the world, might make people feel a bit sad.

In fact, he's so concerned that he reckons that schools should scale back the amount of teaching they get about it.

There is a case that they should have taught more WWII history in the schools of Freddie and his fellow reality TV stars. The controversy about millennials' lack of knowledge about the Second World War kicked off when it was revealed on The Apprentice that some of the contestants don't even know when it happened.

When asked to find something 'pre-WWII' one of the teams on this week's show weren't exactly sure of when that was.

Regardless of that, Freddie appeared on the show to talk to Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway. He told them: "It was a hard situation, World War Two, I don't want anyone to think I'm being disrespectful.

"I remember learning it as a child thinking 'Oh my God it's so intense'."

He continued: "I don't think encouraging death or telling people how many people died in the world war is going to make it better.

"There's so many problems going on in the world, like Brexit, that's not taught in schools.

"When I left school it hit me like a ton of bricks - I didn't know anything to do with life."

With that in mind, he reckons that more kids should be taught things like - for example - how to get a mortgage.

A noble aim, no doubt, but there's no reason they can't be taught about both, surely?

Anyway, as you'd expect, people really kicked off about this opinion.

One person commented: "Who is this idiot on Good Morning Britain saying that the deaths WWII can cause mental health in people now?! Those soldiers gave their lives for your today..."

Another said: "Why are Good Morning Britain allowing these young 'men' who look barely old enough to shave criticise people like my dad who was a Royal Marine Commando in WW2 because talking about war upsets their mental health....

"Christ, too cushy a life springs to mind."

A third added: "This fella on Good Morning Britain needs a good old slap, of course you need to learn about World War 2 you turnip."

Hmm, they could have put it a bit better than that, but - you've got to admit - there's a point there.
