The Addams Family To Get Live Action Tim Burton TV Reboot

The Addams Family will be getting a live action reboot with director Tim Burton in talks to create it.

Deadline reported that Burton will work alongside Smallville developers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to bring the much-loved franchise back to life as a series.

The pair will be head writers with Burton executive producing and potentially directing the remake.

The dysfunctional family with a love for all things macabre was first brought to life in the 30s by American cartoonist Charles Addams.

It was arguably made most famous by the 1991 movie, which starred Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci.

The film looks at the bizarre story of an aristocratic family who get in touch with someone they believe to be a long-lost relative.

Dad of the family Gomez believes it's his brother Fester Addams (Uncle Fester to you and me), but it's actually the adopted son of a loan shark. He uses Fester to try to con the Addams' out of their vast fortune and wealth.

The Hollywood news outlet said that the new series would be told from the perspective of Wednesday Addams - but that's not confirmed.

Reports suggest that lots of big platforms are bidding for rights to the show, including Netflix.

Nothing has been revealed in terms of release date, cast or plot - but wouldn't Burton be a perfect fit for the role of bringing it back to life. He's worked on loads of other dark comedies with a similar tone.

Beetlejuice, released in 1988, centred on a deceased couple, Adam and Barbara, who want to scare away a family that moved into their old house. They then seek the assistance of bio-exorcist Betelgeuse.

Burton also worked on the likes of Edward Scissorhands, Dark Shadows (a gothic-horror soap opera that he turned into a film in 2012) and Sweeney Todd - the story of the eponymous murderous barber.

He's also well known for sticking with a few famous names as his actors.

Johnny Depp has appeared in eight of Burton's films, while Helena Bonham Carter and Christopher Lee have both starred in seven and five of his films, respectively.

The series would be Burton's first live action series, and he would be taking on one of the film world's most beloved franchises - no pressure, Tim.
