Clarkson's Farm viewers divided over whether Amazon 'intentionally edits Gerald's gibberish'

It has left fans divided

The new episodes of Clarkson’s Farm have been out for just under a week and already the fandom’s clamour for the rest of the season has led to some wild theories.

Whether it be that Clarkson doesn’t actually work on the farm when the cameras are off or the various theories that Kaleb wasn’t going to be coming back that have now been debunked, the wait for new episodes has left fans exploring every avenue.

Now, however, Clarkson Farm fans on Reddit have introduced the newest conspiracy theory – that Gerald’s ‘gibberish’ is intentionally edited to make it harder to understand.

For those who don’t know Gerald Cooper he is one of the farmworkers who has become a supporting character in the Prime Video series focused on Clarkson’s attempts to run a farm.

Gerald is a beloved part of the TV show however he largely follows one role in particular in the series – his incredibly thick West Country accent that is akin to the farmer from Hot Fuzz.

This is shown to be incomprehensible to Clarkson, accentuating the large gap between the people used to working these farms and him.

One fan took to Reddit however to suggest that this may not all be as it seems.

They posted to r/ClarksonsFarm to say: “Love the show, however, my girlfriend and I disagree on how accurate Gerald’s gibberish actually is.

“I thought it fairly obvious that Amazon edits Gerald speaking and includes several clips of several conversations. That’s why there are always constant cuts whenever Gerald speaks. To allow for this to happen his lips are not to be visible.

“This meaning, they edit his sentences to make it sound like gibberish. He doesn’t actually talk like that and yes, while his country accent is sometimes difficult to understand, I think it’s highly exaggerated. Of course this is for comic effect and it’s all good fun.

“My girlfriend on the other hand thinks he does actually talk like that. What are your thoughts?”

The answer to the question, which had fans more or less split down the middle, probably does lie somewhere in the middle.

By often framing things to prevent his lips from always being visible, as well as Cooper likely hamming up the accent for the cameras just a tad, it is entirely plausible that Amazon have no editing to do.

This is not, however, the first time the claim has been made.

Countryfile’s Adam Henson spoke about Gerald, saying he’d met him and was sure that they edited his voice to make it harder to understand.

He said: “It's sort of reality television, isn't it. It's sort of documentary style, but it's scripted and they're setting things up

“And so what, that's great. It makes it funny. And Gerald, I've met him a number of times and he can speak perfectly fine.”

Adam then claimed that the show overlays multiple versions of his voice to try and make it harder to understand, however this has not ever been corroborated by the show.

Regardless, Gerald remains one of the most beloved members of the series.

The farmhand opened up a couple of years ago about his cancer diagnosis, however, underwent treatment and in 2024 was declared cancer free.
