Jeremy Clarkson has reportedly suffered a huge loss after deciding to sell his Lamborghini tractor less than a year after buying it.

When it comes to the veteran TV presenter he's not one to do things by halves, which means it shouldn't have been a surprise to fans when he rolled up in the latest season of Amazon smash hit Clarkson's Farm in a Lamborghini tractor.

Because yes, even supercar brands have an interest in the agricultural industry.

Clarkson debuted his latest lambo during season four, boasting about how the £85,000 piece of machinery came with 48 gears, 188 buttons and, presumably, a lot of speed.

After all, the 65-year-old did find fame as a motoring journalist, so it's no surprise that he'd invest in a piece of fancy machinery for Diddly Squat.

How much did Jeremy Clarkson sell his Lamborghini tractor for?

Despite singing the vehicle's virtues during the series, Clarkson had seemingly decided it was time to let go of his Lamborghini, with the presenter spotted selling the machinery at auction.

One eagle-eyed Redditor shared an image of Clarkson attending an action in Cambridgeshire alongside co-star Kaleb Cooper.

According to Yahoo!Entertainment, the tractor sold for £70,500 after receiving 62 bids.

While it may seem a pretty sweet deal for a tractor he'd purchased secondhand, it's still a loss of nearly 15 grand, as he originally forked out £85,000 for it.

Which certainly won't be welcome news after last year's poor harvest, which featured in the final episodes of season four.

Lamborghini and tractors: a history

When you think of a tractor, you'll likely picture the vehicle bumbling slowly down a country lane while a line of frustrated drivers try and overtake.

Not really an image which you'd think a supercar brand would be scrambling to slap their badge on.

However, the unusual marriage between agriculture and fast cars is one which goes back a long way.

According to CBC, Ferruccio Lamborghini made his money in Italy's tractor manufacturing business. He founded the business in 1948, which swiftly became crucial to Italy's post WWII boom.

One of the wealthiest men in the country, Lamborghini had a passion for sports cars and decided to manufacture his own after a fall out with supercar creator Enzo Ferrari.

The supercars have since overtaken the tractors in terms of popularity, Lamborghini Trattori remains to this day and even served as the starting point for one of the most famous supercars.

Which means it shouldn't be a surprise that Clarkson has owned several Lamborghini tractors over the years.

As for the presenter turned farmer's next tractor investment, we'll have to wait and see – however we hope he doesn't decide to test it out by sticking Cooper in the tractor weight box again.
