TV star explained reality of 'soft swapping' parties as trend grows with couples

Their swinging scandal ended up leading to a hugely popular show

A TV star explained the reality of what happens at ‘soft swapping’ parties as the trend starts growing in popularity with couples.

Well, swinging at least seems to be getting more mainstream attention should I say as people are having their eyes opened more and more to the different lifestyles couples practice.

Some of us might never have even known there was such a thing as a ‘spicy cruise’ or entire holiday resorts dedicated to it.

But plenty of people have been at it for well, centuries probably and for some of us (be honest, my fellow SLOMW fans), when we hear ‘swingers’ there’s a certain group of people we think about.

Mormons, obviously. Now, I’m not making some kind of generalisation here but thinking back to a particular group of people involved in the ‘Mormon Soft Swinging’ scandal back in 2022 which led to a popular TV show.

Back in June 2022, TikToker Taylor Frankie Paul caused headlines when she announced her divorce and shared that she and her now ex-husband, Tate Paul, had been involved in ‘soft swinging’.

“There was a group of us that were intimate with each other. All of us were pretty open to it and on board for it,” she said. “Obviously no one was forced. We did this on occasion. We would have parties and everyone by the end of the night would go and do all that … it happened several times.”

This caused a whole online scandal and fall outs and much of the drama that unfolded in Hulu’s Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but I’m not going to get into that right now.

Instead, let’s get a bit more of an understanding about what kind of thing would go down at the parties where this ‘soft swapping’ of partners would take place.

During one episode, she did reveal: “We did have sex in the shower with our husbands all together. We also had sex in the same bed at the same time.”

Taylor said on The Viall Files podcast that when the parties started, they were essentially ‘inexperienced swingers’ and the most she and her husband apparently discussed was that they wouldn’t be doing any of it ‘behind closed doors’ or ‘sneaking off’.

“These parties got pretty crazy,” she said. “You’re drunk, you don’t know where everyone is at all times so it was messy.”

Taylor explained that there would be ‘lots of people, lots of couples’ who liked to drink with people being ‘flirty’ to start off before groups would go home at the end of the original party.

“The main people would stay,” she said. “And it’s kind of where things would escalate.”

All taking place in one room, the TikToker said there would be ‘blindfolds’ and they’d ‘play spin the bottle’.

“Everyone would make out with everyone; all the husbands would kiss you and you’d have to guess and vice versa. Lots of games,” she explained, noting how similar it was to Love Island.

Taylor said in her big 2022 announcement video that she had violated her soft swinging agreement with Tate. This had included them agreeing to pursue intimacy with others without going ‘all the way’ but she said she’d stepped out of the boundaries by having an ‘emotional affair’ with another husband.
