Virgin Island is a show that has a pretty clear goal: to help groups of Virgins become comfortable enough with their own virginity that they might feel ready to lose it.

Whilst the option is there for the participants of Virgin Island to have sex with the surrogate partners in the show who practice a radical form of therapy where they will be physically intimate with their clients, not everyone takes it. In actual fact in the first season only one participant, Dave, loses their virginity.

The real benefit of the TV show however is in the positive effects it has on the participants moving forward, allowing them to overcome issues they may have with intimacy.

One of the participants who received a great deal of media attention was Emma, who went on the show as a 24-year-old virgin who had struggled with anxiety and body image.

The at the time 24-year-old revealed she had been bullied as a child, and spoke in an interview with The Sun about how she often gets people telling her she ‘doesn’t look like a stereotypical virgin’.

In this interview from May of last year she revealed she had not yet lost her virginity, but the Channel 4 star has now explained that she is finally no longer a virgin.

In a red carpet with the Metro, Emma was asked about the impact the show has had on her, and said: “Obviously I was a virgin before I went on but I’m not anymore so I think that’s a good impact, yes?”

She continued to explain how the show has changed her, saying: “I’ve just been able to be a lot more comfortable with intimacy, explore it more, and just find a lot more confidence in myself.

“I think that really helps with the intimacy journey, and just yeah the big wide world that I’m in.”

Speaking to Capsule NZ in October of 2025 about the experience of losing her virginity, Emma said: “Once I did it, I was kind of like, oh, is that it?

“But to be fair, I've just lost my virginity. I haven't been able to have enjoyable sex. Like, I haven't had sex since.

“I haven't been able to find out what positions I like, what I do and don't like. So, there is still a lot of that that I need to learn and navigate.”

She said that, as of the time of the interview, she was ‘happy and content’ with her intimate life.

Emma is not the only season one participant to have lost her virginity either, with Holly having announced she is not only no longer a virgin – but that she is having a baby.

Holly said in a post on social media that ‘baby Grant’ is due in August of 2026.
