A married mother-of-three who had sex every day for a whole year has explained the huge impact it had on her.

As we get older, it can get harder and harder, if you'll pardon the pun, to have sex on a regular basis as things like work and kids can often get in the way.

It's been suggested that American couples in their 20s tend to have sex once every four or five days, a number which only declines as we get older, so it was a Herculean effort for Brittany Gibbons and her husband to get the job done. Gibbons set herself the eye-catching challenge back in 2022, although the sex was all with her husband, whereas other notable names have gone viral for doing similar challenges with random people off the street.

However, she was keen to stress that the task was never about simply getting the job done, and instead it became more pleasurable and enjoyable as she started to learn new things about her body.

But it didn't get off to the easiest start as she came to terms with the prospect of doing it every single day.

Brittany wrote: "It started off rough. I'd be standing at the sink taking out my contacts when it'd hit me ... I still had to have sex before falling asleep. As a work-from-home mom of three, the thought exhausted me."

Sex can do great things for physical and mental health, as well as the strength of relationships, so it's no surprise that after a few weeks things started to improve in all of those areas for Brittany.

She added: "As the months passed, I started looking forward to it. Sex begat more sex, and those connected, loved-up feelings began to creep outside of the bedroom - or, in our case, the laundry room, the closet, and our garage - and into our everyday lives.

"We were more romantic with each other, touching arms as we passed, kissing longer before work - and not just the cold familiar peck. Our relationship was stronger and better when our intimacy was flourishing."

Having struggled with her own body image, Brittany started to feel more confident in her own skin and started wearing less and less around the house, having previously covered up at every opportunity.

And now, three years on, their relationship is continuing to thrive, even if they no longer do it every single night.

She concluded: "The majority of people around you are not having sex every single day. They're busy being stressed at work, coordinating their kids' soccer schedules, and paying bills. Fitting sex into all of that is difficult, but, for us, it's necessary.

"Sex is what reminds us we're intimate partners and not just roommates in charge of keeping kids alive."

Brittany stressed that 'intimacy doesn't always mean penetration' and the challenge helped bring her closer to her husband in many other ways, while she also said she became a 'better wife, a better mother, and a better woman' in the process.
