The side effects of a new penis-related trend have been explained as more and more men are trying it out for themselves.
'Jelqing' is the term doing the rounds online, with numerous men claiming that the practice can even elongate their old chaps despite a current lack of scientific evidence.
A content creator who claims to be a qualified US doctor has recently commented on Jelqing, which has risen to prominence thanks to Reddit.
The YouTuber known as Hink is known as a 'penis influencer', as he shares advice online on how you can grow you willy, with a new video covering what jelqing consists of and how it can go south if you do it without any prior research.

While he doesn't provide official medical advice, he explained that the trend is said to work if you grab your penis and apply varying levels of pressure.

Why do people practice 'jelqing'?
This is meant to elongate it, with as he explains: “Jelqing is basically a principle where you get your D in a semi-erect state, make an ‘okay’ grip at the bottom, and gradually move it towards the top, exposing it to different higher levels of pressure.”
The method is meant to create micro tears in the tissue, with your body healing them bigger, similar to building muscle, though Hink, who is often masked, clarified that 'the penis is not a muscle, it’s an organ'.
While this may have worked for some, Hink highlighted that there is no scientific evidence to back it up, saying: “The Sexual Medicine Society of North America looked at this. Major urological associations looked at this. Nothing. No peer-reviewed studies. No mechanism that actually works.”
Results are varied, though according to Healthline, a number of things can be helped through the method, such as the girth or length of the penis, while erections can also last longer.
The health site have also outlined the main side-effects of the method, which people should be taking note of.
Side-effects of 'jelqing'
While it can be safe as long as you don't squeeze too hard, the following can occur if it is done incorrectly or too aggressively:
- It can tear tissue or damage ligaments connecting the penis to the pelvis, causing permanent damage
- Bruising on the penis can occur
- Skin irritation from rubbing
- Pain or soreness along penis shaft
- Scar tissue from rubbing too hard
- Erectile dysfunction

Risks with 'jelqing'
Hink explained that some people try to do it while their penis is erect, which can lead to problems as the content creator said this will mean you're 'one step away from disasters,' claiming: "They jel and poof—complete shutdown of the penis. Erections gone for good."
The method can even trigger scarring, as the masked YouTuber added: “Case reports from major urology centers document men developing erectile dysfunction from jelqing,
“We’ve documented Peyronie’s disease linked to jelqing. That’s penile curvature and fibrosis.
“These aren’t theoretical risks. These are real complications in real patients,” he concluded.
Size is more important than ever to people nowadays - but is jelqing really worth it?
