Joe Rogan has shared a snap of himself sporting a huge grin while clutching three bags containing his bodily fluids after trying out a bizarre health ritual.

The UFC commentator and podcast host, 58, told his nearly 20 million Instagram followers that he has recently undergone a medical procedure known as plasmapheresis.

Admitting it was a 'very weird' experience, he explained he took the plunge at a clinic in Texas after hearing his pals discuss the benefits they have enjoyed since having it done.

In a post shared on Friday (27 March), Rogan revealed he had visited a health and wellness clinic called Ways2Well, which claims to offer 'end-to-end care built for human optimisation pioneers'.

According to its website, the firm 'help individuals take control of their health by providing advanced, preventive care that go beyond traditional healthcare models'.

Ways2Well explains: "Through innovative diagnostic testing, physician-guided treatment plans, and a focus on whole-body wellness, we empower people to identify potential health concerns early and make informed decisions for a healthier future."

One of the various treatments on offer at their Texas bases is plasmapheresis, which Ways2Well describe as a 'medical procedure that removes and replaces plasma while returning your blood cells to circulation'.

Sharing some further details on the process, it adds: "Plasmapheresis is a type of therapeutic blood filtration. During treatment, blood is taken from the body through a line, passed through a machine that separates plasma from blood cells, and then the blood cells are returned along with replacement fluid. The goal is not to remove all blood. The goal is to reduce certain substances in the plasma that may be contributing to disease or severe symptoms.

"It is not a supplement, detox trend, or wellness shortcut. It is a medical procedure used in specific clinical settings under supervision."

Clients can head to the 'Longevity Lab' in Austin for a plasmapheresis procedure, which will set you back thousands of dollars, and the treatment takes up to 120 minutes.

It's the kind of place you can imagine biohacker Bryan Johnson spending his time - and although Rogan isn't in his league, the New Jersey-native does like to try and optimise the potential of his body.

He previously admitted to trying a 'wacky' diet for a month which helped him lose 12lbs and also told how he has dabbled with Ayahuasca to reap its 'powerful' alleged benefits.

Now, he's undergone plasmapheresis to find out if that will do him any good. Rogan likened the process to 'changing the oil in your body'.

Explaining what was inside of the vibrant bags he was clutching in his Instagram post, Rogan said in the caption: "This is the stuff they pulled out of my blood.

"That yellow/orange liquid is plasma - it carries a lot of the inflammatory proteins, toxins, and byproducts that build up over time.

"They separate it out, remove what they don’t want, and replace it so your system can function cleaner. It’s basically like changing the oil in your body.

"It seems very weird when you do it, but the people that I know who have tried this have experienced better sleep scores and markedly better recovery. We’ll see…"

He went on to say that he found it 'pretty fascinating' to hear that Ways2Well are 'also working on some next-level approaches using biologics alongside the plasma replacement'.

Summing up his experience at the clinic, Rogan added: "Crazy experience. Super curious where this kind of tech is headed."

Social media users had a lot to say about him undergoing the procedure in the comment section of his post, as well as his Cheshire cat-like grin.

Others were skeptical about how effective plasmapheresis even is, as one commented: "Isn’t this what your liver/kidneys do free of charge?"

Another wrote: "This is insane!"

A third joked: "I thought you had discovered the most bestest orange juice in the world."

A fourth said: "I need my oil changed."

While a fifth chimed in saying: "Please update us!"
