Family's Basement Fills With Blood And Guts

They were trying to sell their house

Halloween came a bit early for a family in Iowa when their basement filled with five inches of blood and guts.

Nick Lestina and his family were preparing to put their house on the market when the basement flooded with animal blood, fat and bones after a meat locker next door reportedly overflowed.

The family of seven had lived next to the meat locker - a container where meat is cured - for the last 10 years with no problems. But Dahl's Meat Locker had allegedly started dumping hog and cattle remains down a drain in the floor which is connected to the pipes of the family home.

He reported the incidents to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources which then confirmed what the delightful substance was - confirming that it was in fact guts and blood. Lovely.

They got the Department of Health involved due to its hazard and they said the meat processor has been cooperating with the investigation.

Lestina however, still isn't happy with the meat processing neighbours.

He said: "They haven't reached out at all. In fact, they haven't taken any accountability for it. They say it's not their fault and told me 'good luck.' If I want to do anything about it, it's on my dime and my schedule."

Speaking to WHO-TV, he added: "I'm looking into thousands of dollars with cleanup, over $2,000 [£1,500] just to sanitize the basement. I don't have thousands of dollars to throw away at this.

"I've had a company come out for cleaning and sanitizing, but they can't start that process until it stops coming up the drain.

"I've been talking to different excavation people. It hasn't been a promising deal. I need dry weather."

Seeing as the family are trying to sell their house, it looks like it's going to be difficult to find a buyer when they put it on the market and their plans have been halted and delayed considerably.

"No one wants to see that, smell that," he added. "I wouldn't want that for anybody in their house."

Many of the family's belongings were destroyed by the blood in the basement, including a bed they were saving for their toddler son.

LADbible approached Dahl's for comment.
