A man has revealed that he often saw £1 million being passed through his hands every day as one of Britain's biggest drug smugglers. Watch below:

In a trailer for a new Anything Goes With James English YouTube podcast episode with Stephen Mee, the former cocaine dealer, who was in prison for 15 years, gives an insight as to what it was like seeing so much money in the 1980s and 90s.

At the time, he worked closely with Liverpool kingpin Curtis Warren and supplied tonnes of cocaine throughout Europe.

Mee revealed: "When I started buying and selling for people I was turning over a million pound a day sometimes, just buying drugs for people.

"Once they knew I was there, they could drop money off with me and order things and the stuff would appear, you know, sometimes it was a good million a day going through your hands and it just gets moved on to people all over Europe really."

The former smuggler also spoke about one of his big run-ins with the police.

He added: "[When the] chase first started there was a police motorbike coming behind us and we've gone round a big bend because I was in a big car I was able to stop pretty quick.

"But he wasn't and he hit the back of the car and he flew over the top of the car.

"So the call went out, officer down, [unclear speech] suspects. So they just went f*****g crazy, just shooting at everything."

Like many big drug dealers, he believed that there was a way out from 'the life'.

Mee went on to say: "I reached that level where I thought I could come out

"I had a 10 million level in my mind, thinking that's what I'd need, because I was on the run, to stay out safely."

When filming Liverpool Narcos for Sky, he said that his criminal journey started when he was just eight years old.

As per Liverpool Echo, Mee said: "It's been a life of struggle I suppose all the way.

"It's the same in all poor areas, that if you've not got enough food what do you do?

"For me, that was the beginning, shoplifting in Tesco.

"I robbed my own primary school when I was nine. I don't know what made me do it but I took a tin full of money, went to the local shop, bought a big Toblerone with it.

"And by the time I got home, everybody knew the school had been robbed and it was me."
