According to reports, the incident took place during New Year's Eve celebrations shortly after the clocks struck midnight in Balashikha, close to the capital city of Moscow.

One of the comments reportedly posted by someone who had watched the video, read: "Harry Potter vs Voldemort. Moscow Region style."

Police are now investigating the incident and are looking to speak to those involved.

This isn't the first time that people have used fireworks in such a dangerous way.

Last year, shocking footage was shared showing the moment gangs of youths launched fireworks at each other in Birmingham city centre as residents watched on in horror.

Dressed all in black, the yobs hurled the explosives into roads, narrowly missing passersby and passing cars, on 31 October.

Huge bangs were heard at around 9pm as the thugs set off the fireworks near apartment blocks and concerned residents raised the alarm with the police twice amid fears innocent pedestrians or drivers would be hurt.

Video footage captured the moment they were thrown into the road. A nearby resident that witnessed the commotion said: "I could see fireworks were being thrown at traffic and where passers by were walking and was really concerned someone would get hurt.

"I was considering phoning for an ambulance too as I was so sure someone would be seriously injured. I phoned the police twice because they hadn't come after half an hour, and the responder said they were dealing with a number of similar incidents in the area."

And in Liverpool, crowds of terrified people were forced to run for cover as falling fireworks rained down on them at an illegal display.

Hundreds gathered at Everton Park, Merseyside, on Bonfire Night to watch as groups let off their own fireworks overlooking the city.

The car park was reportedly gridlocked with people who were trying to find the perfect spot, but the park quickly emptied when a number of explosions went out of control.

Video footage filmed near the brow showed how crowds cheered as the fireworks burst loudly into the sky.

But things quickly turned sour when some of the fireworks went off too close to the ground. Sparks scattered over cars and people standing on the grass - many of whom were there with children.
