Super El Niño simulation reveals why 'Godzilla' weather phenomenon is so powerful
Next year is anticipated to be the hottest in history, thanks to the so-called Super El Niño.
As we recently reported, up to 451,000 human lives are going to be lost as the destructive weather phenomenon incites droughts, floods, and wildfires in particularly vulnerable areas of the planet.
The deaths have already started and will likely continue until the summer of 2027; Nigeria, Indonesia, Brazil, India and Sudan being the countries most affected.
To help us understand the Super El Niño a bit better, a weirdly calming explainer simulation uploaded to YouTube channel @GeoGlobeTales is definitely worth checking out.

It breaks down the elemental structure of everything, comparing this hot-topic (pun not intended) event to what happens when a 'giant natural fan' suddenly stops cooling down the Eastern Pacific.
The narration goes: "You see, this giant fan is actually made up of steady winds known as the trade winds, which blow from east to west. For centuries, these winds helped sail ships cross the Pacific Ocean; they push warm surface water toward Indonesia and Northern Australia where it fuels tropical rainfall. And off the coasts of Peru and southern Ecuador, the water stays cold, helping keep the coastal climate dry.
"But every two to seven years these trade winds weaken, allowing warm water to spread back east and bringing water temperatures here one or two degrees above normal, and that's enough to make the weather go crazy around the world."
Resulting devastations include warmer winters in Canada, heavier rain in the southern territories of the US, plus flooding in South America and droughts across Indonesia and Australia.
"In the 1870s, a powerful El Niño was one of the factors behind a famine that took the lives of an estimated three percent of the world's population, and now, scientists think the current El Niño could be the strongest ever recorded, with water temperatures in the eastern Pacific expected to rise more than three degrees," the simulation continued.
"As the ocean releases heat into the atmosphere and raises global temperatures, 2027 could become the hottest year ever recorded".
Commenting on this eye-opening insight were plenty of people who'd drawn their own conclusions, including one who highlighted the effects this will have on all marine life.
"The food chain will be so so impacted," they added, while another viewer shared: "The fact that weakened trade winds can trigger a literal global chain reaction is just mind-blowing. It really shows how interconnected everything on this planet is".
"This year was hot AF as is... and now it could be up to 3°C even warmer?! I'll literally DIE," somebody else worried.
Meanwhile, a fourth YouTube user had clearly missed the point of the educational video. "Let's hope 27 is the hottest year on record. Love the heat hate the cold," they declared.
This comes after United Nations secretary general António Guterres dramatically claimed we're in 'uncharted waters' with the Super El Niño. "El Niño is being supersized before our eyes. The science leaves no room for doubt: the planet is in uncharted waters, and those waters are heating up.
"Sea surface temperatures are rising, temperatures keep climbing, and the world is in the danger zone of extreme weather. The race now is between rising risks and our commitment to take climate action and protect people. We must win that race," he said.
