Martin Brundle has responded after sharing an awkward exchange with musician Lewis Capaldi at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Sky Sports reporter is known for his iconic 'Grid Walk' for the broadcaster at Formula 1 races, where he has chats with drivers, officials and even celebrities.

Capaldi, on the other hand, is taking a break from touring and was at the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore with his brother, Anthony, at the weekend.

Before the race, the 'Somebody to Love' singer performed at the Padang stage as part of the event's entertainment schedule before the race itself on Sunday (5 October), which saw British Mercedes driver George Russel take pole position and win.

Brundle and Capaldi shared a viral moment on the grid, as they met for the first time in what may be one of the most awkward exchanges you'll likely ever see on TV.

Firstly, the former F1 driver ran into Capaldi's older brother, Anthony, and greeted him, saying: "Lewis, wonderful to see you," after being told by production to look out for the singer who was 'wearing a cap', which they clearly got wrong.

"Martin I'm his brother," Anthony pointed out while Lewis entered the frame, as the reporter apologised and carried out a short interview with the brothers.

The 66-year-old was then told by Lewis that he was a 'big fan', with the pair there to support McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who are looking for consecutive Constructors' Championships and the team's first Drivers' World Championship since 2008.

At the end of the interview, Brundle thanked them for their time, though Capaldi left his hand out for a shake, which was blanked by the legendary reporter.

Anthony and Lewis could be seen laughing about the incident, but the Scot would later take to X, reposting the video with the message 'b****ed by brundle'.

Though against all odds, the Sky Sports reporter replied.

Brundle wrote on his own account: "Sincere apologies Lewis, I turned around to the camera with an urgent 3 second count going on in my ears to wind up for the national anthem.

"Had no idea you were trying to shake my hand. A cardinal sin on my part which I hope to put right one day. Hope you enjoyed F1."

It looks like it was a playful exchange between the two, with fans absolutely loving the hilarious exchange, as one wrote: "I have to say it was extremely entertaining from start to finish. First the brother and then the handshake."

Another pointed out: "Class from ya Martin to apologise but we know and Lewis knows it's not on purpose. Gridwalks are manic and clearly hectic, he'll take it in good humour I'm sure lmao, we did."

A third added: "Hilarious for the rest of us though, thank god Lewis is a funny down to earth guy....his brother will slap him with this every Xmas!!"

It's not the first time Brundle has had a cringeworthy exchange on camera, though, with him cutting short a conversation with NFL star Russell Okung after he started advertising something, breaking a Sky Sports rule in the process.
