90-Year-Old Man Has Pint Of Guinness Delivered Straight To His Front Door

A 90-year-old man had his spirits well and truly raised when his family surprised him with a freshly poured Guinness right on his doorstep - the stuff of dreams, I know.

Jim McMahon, of West Belfast, Northern Ireland, had been missing the iconic Irish stout ever since the coronavirus lockdown took away his regular trips to the pub.

But his daughter managed to come up with an ingenious way to bring the booze to him, after she found out a local pub called Hatfield House was offering deliveries of Guinness to locals.

Daughter Susi got in touch with Hatfield House and put an order through, before going to watch as the black stuff was delivered to her grateful father.

She filmed the emotional reunion, which saw a delivery driver pull up to Jim's house and pull him a pint straight from a tap.

In the clip, Jim could not look happier - and rightly so.

The owners of Hatfield House had advertised the delivery scheme on Facebook, telling people to 'stay safe, stay home and let us bring the pub to you'.

"We are delighted to be able to offer all our customers the goodness of a freshly poured pint delivered to their home in the safety of isolation," the Facebook post said.

"The service areas in the mobile units are sanitised after every use for your safety. Looking forward to serving you all soon."

Susi told Belfast Live that a family member had shared the idea with her, which was when she realised it would be perfect for her old man.

She said: "My father's 90 and my mum's 87 and the two of them live at home and they're isolating at the moment. And if you knew them - they're really independent people and both of them are very social people."

Susi continued: "And my daddy - no matter who he's talking to at the moment on the phone - the first thing he tells them is that he'd do anything for a pint of Guinness. He'd normally drink two or three pints of Guinness during the week and that's him satisfied.

"So I saw the delivery service from the Hatfield and I said to my husband, 'I'm ringing these guys.'

"I rang and was chatting to a man named Eugene at the Hatfield and asked would they do deliveries of only one pint. He said they wouldn't normally, but when I explained how my father's 90 and how he's not likely to drink four pints of Guinness, Eugene said he'd be out.

"He came out within about 20 minutes. And you can see in the video what it meant to my dad - he was nearly crying when he saw it! He was delighted. It's a great concept."
