Another giant leap has been taken in mankind's insatiable quest for progress, one which will drastically improve the lives of millions* the world over.

No, there has been no great advance in medicine, and they haven't come up with a solution for global warming, the world is still spiralling out of control, but there is one piece of news that will bring even the most ardent Brexiteer and Remainers together; the humble roast.

It has been a staple to the diet of Brits young and old for generations and you can now order it online - just think, no pots, not pans, no mess, no effort, and if that doesn't just sum up 2018 then I don't know what does.

Roast giant Toby Carvery has launched an seven-day takeaway service, meaning you can order your meal from the comfort of your own home.

You will have to go and pick it up yourself though - a small price to pay.

But if you're willing to make that minimal effort, you get a choice of four different meats - just like in the restaurants. Wow.

And you can then pick from a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes or beef dripping potatoes, and gravy or vegetarian gravy.

When it comes to he choice of veg however, Toby decides and customers will have to deal with he veg; customers will be given four freshly steamed or roasted vegetables.

And people are kicking off.

One Twitter user wrote: "I don't like the cauliflower cheese or mash, so how do you pick what vegetables to have on your on your carvery?"

Another said: "It's not a detailed enough menu. You can pass on the Yorkshire and the gravy but you can't add mash or onions in gravy which are my fave!"

Customers will have to go and pick up their roast from the restaurant.

Possible solution: cook your own roast?

Not everyone has taken the news quite so badly though, with some excited by the prospect of a takeaway carvery.

One fan wrote: "This has made my year! Can't wait to order."

Prices are the same for the takeaway service as if you were eating in the restaurant.

But there are no additional fees for using the takeaway service - just be prepared to nip down to your local restaurant to pick up your meal as Toby doesn't offer a delivery service yet.

You can also order bitesize 'Toby Tasters', including starters, non-carvery mains, desserts and even soft drinks, if you haven't got any in.

A Toby Carvery spokesperson said: "We're very excited to have launched our new Toby takeaway option.

"This will give roast lovers the opportunity to enjoy all the greatness of the Home of the Roast whilst on the go, or within the comfort of their own homes."

*maybe not quite millions.
