A cop claims his force has nabbed the 'world's unluckiest burglars' - after the suspects accidentally 'butt-dialled' 999 during their alleged break-in.
Chief Inspector John Owen of Staffordshire Police said officers were alerted to a break-in on Wednesday night (6 January) after the suspect accidentally called police.

CI Owen claims members of the force were able to sit and listen to their 'antics' - even hearing their own sirens arrive outside.
The copper, who likened the perpetrators to Home Alone's Wet Bandits, shared the tweet to his 2,900 followers - with the news entertaining social media users and quickly going viral.
CI Owen wrote: "I think we just arrested the world's unluckiest burglars.

"While committing a burglary, one of the bungling burglars accidentally sat on his phone and dialled 999.
"We received a call detailing all of their antics up to the point of hearing our patrols arrive and arrest them."
One user questioned why the burglars would divulge the address, but another commenter pointed out that the police were probably able to trace the call.

One person joked: "....and that concludes the case for the prosecution Your Honour..."
Another said: "Let's hope the courts give them more than a tickle on the wrists."
A third pointed out: "It's like a scene from Home Alone."
Staffordshire Police confirmed two men have been arrested. A spokesperson said: "Officers responded to a suspicious phone call just before 9.10pm on Wednesday, January 6.

"Subsequently, Staffordshire Police dispatched officers to the Middleport area of Stoke-on-Trent.
"Two men - aged 49 and 42 and both from Stoke-on-Trent - were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They remain in custody. "
Back in 2019, two dopey burglars were caught on CCTV robbing a house in broad daylight.
Video footage shows the two staring straight down the camera as they forced their way into the house with crowbars - in the middle of the day.

First they could be seen jumping over the fence of the property in Netherton, West Midlands. Presumably in a bid to avoid CCTV at the front of the house.
But they're completely unaware that they are being filmed on what can only be described as crystal clear CCTV in the back as well. Awkward.
