Elon Musk makes U-turn on Epstein file claim after fiery X rant about Donald Trump

Just days after his claims, Elon Musk has seemingly regretted posting about President Trump's links to the disgraced financier

Just days after making a scathing allegation against his old pal Donald Trump, Elon Musk appears to have retracted it.

A war of words ensued this week between the Tesla CEO and President Donald Trump, with the pair's seemingly perfect relationship turning sour.

With Musk openly criticising Trump on social media, a bombshell post emerged that took the online feud to the next level.

Stemming from his frustration with the President's 'Big Beautiful Bill' (yes, it's really called that), the tech billionaire promptly nicknamed it the 'Big Ugly Spending Bill', not looking to agree with the policies it implemented.

On Thursday (5 June), he also wrote on X: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.

“Have a nice day, DJT!”

It came just hours after Trump voiced his 'disappointment' at Musk's behaviour.

But less than two days on, it looks like the SpaceX CEO may have regretted making his claims.

The Epstein files were part of a lawsuit filed against Jeffrey Epstein's ex-partner Ghislaine Maxwell in 2015 by one of the sex offender's victims, the late Virginia Giuffre.

Musk officially announced his exit from his role in government as part of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last week, and said on Thursday that he would be dropping 'a really big bomb' before the bombshell claim.

The 53-year-old looks to have backtracked though, with the post about Epstein, who was a child sex offender, appears to have been removed from his X account.

Trump and Musk have wished each other 'well' since the episode, even though the former threatened to pull federal loans and subsidies to Musk's companies.

The whole feud cost Musk billions from his net worth as Tesla's stock price plummeted, though the White House has commented on the online exchange.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made her views clear by sharing a screenshot of a statement from Trump, where he called out Musk for his comments on the bill.

"I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago," the US president wrote on Truth Social.

"This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress, It's a Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given. If this Bill doesn’t pass, there will be a 68% Tax Increase, and things far worse than that.

"I didn’t create this mess, I’m just here to FIX IT. This puts our Country on a Path of Greatness. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Leavitt unsurprisingly sided with Trump, as she told MailOnline: "This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted."

Trump also reposted comments made by Epstein's lawyer, David Schoen.

Responding to Musk's claims about Trump being part of the files, he wrote on X: "I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein’s defence as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died,

"He sought my advice for months before that. I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump.

"I specifically asked him!"
