As leaders from across the world gathered in the Swiss town of Davos yesterday, the general population were left with a lot of questions.

Did Donald Trump really just confuse Iceland with Greenland? Did he also just refer to himself as daddy? And what is happening with Emmanuel Macron?

In case you haven't been keeping up with what went on at the World Economic Forum, it's seen some of the planet's most powerful people congregate to discuss the United States' desire to take over Greenland.

Trump has wanted the territory, which currently belongs to the kingdom of Denmark, since his first presidential term, but he's stepped up efforts since returning to the Oval Office. While he's now admitted that he won't take the territory by force, he has repeatedly offered to buy it, suggesting that it is vital for national security due to its geographical proximity to Russia, in the event of Vladimir Putin's country launching a nuclear missile attack.

Trump has slipped up a few times already at the event, dropping a rather offensive remark which didn't do much to enamour his gracious Swiss hosts, while also regularly mistaking Greenland for Iceland.

He said: "I'm helping Europe. I'm helping NATO, and until the last few days when I told them about Iceland, they loved me.

"They called me daddy. A very smart man said, ‘He’s our daddy, he’s running it.’ ... But now what I'm asking for is a piece of ice, cold and poorly located.”

Trump also seemed to take aim at French president Emmanuel Macron after he was spotted wearing sunglasses during the event, despite it being January and very cold over in Switzerland.

"I watched him yesterday, with those beautiful sunglasses. What the hell happened?" Trump said.

Macron later apologised for 'the unsightly appearance' of his eye, suggesting that it was 'something completely harmless'.

“Simply see an unintentional reference to the ‘Eye of the Tiger’ ... For those who catch the reference, it is a sign of determination,” he joked.

French reports have since suggested that Macron appeared to have a sub-conjunctival haemorrhage, which is a broken blood vessel in his eye.

It is harmless, painless and does not affect vision, and is often caused by either a particularly aggressive sneeze or poking or rubbing the eye too much.

While Macron is unlikely to have needed the sunglasses to see, it appears he did so to avoid too much attention, which Trump ever so kindly ruined for him.

Meanwhile, it seems as if most of Europe are going to stand with Denmark when it comes to Trump's demands, with the US president also revealing a message he received from his French equivalent.

It read: "My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland. Let us try to build great things: 1) i can set up a g7 meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon.

"I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danish, the Syrians and the Russians in the margins 2) let us have a dinner together in Paris together on Thursday before you go back to the us. Emmanuel.”
