Mysterious time capsule envelope set to be unsealed tomorrow could contain major world predictions

An envelope which has been passed around for decades and contains a world leader's last words will finally be opened

A letter containing the dying words of a world leader has been sealed for the past 88 years, but it's finally going to be opened tomorrow (19 September) and everyone will know what he said.

Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk was the first ever president of Czechoslovakia after it gained independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire (it's not often you see that mentioned on LADbible) in 1918, and stayed in the job until 1935.

He died a couple of years later in 1937 at the ripe old age of 87, with his country sliced up by the Nazis the following year, before the Second World War began.

On his deathbed, Masaryk dictated a letter to his son Jan, with the words sealed away from the world ever since then.

This letter has become a time capsule, and it's been on quite a journey around Europe in the decades since it was written.

When the Second World War broke out, the letter accompanied Jan Masaryk, who had been the Czechoslovak ambassador to the UK in the 30s and later became the Nazi-occupied country's foreign secretary.

As such, this time capsule of a letter containing a man's last words went to London and Scotland before ending up in France, and then it returned to Czechoslovakia with its owner.

However, once the war was over, Jan was not long for this world as he was found dead in the days following the 1948 communist takeover of Czechoslovakia, with the official version of events being that he had jumped from his window.

The letter went to Jan's secretary, Antonín Sum, who smuggled it out of the country, which is fortunate considering he was thrown in prison for treason a couple of years later.

Luckily, he survived, got the letter back in 1989 and lived until 2006.

A year before his death, he donated the letter to the Czech National Archive with the instruction that it not be opened for another 20 years, and that time is almost here.

So what words does this mysterious letter contain?

Considering it was written down 88 years ago and hasn't been opened since, nobody has a Scooby-Doo, but we're about to find out.

The Telegraph wonders whether it will contain some sort of prophetic warning which will have turned out to be proven right by history, such as a warning about Adolf Hitler (Masaryk was one of the first world leaders to speak out against Hitler) or Josef Stalin, while CNN reports that there have been all sorts of speculation about the letter's contents.

They say some people are hoping it'll contain some intergenerational wisdom which cuts through the decades, while others have suggested it might be something far more mundane and disappointing.

It's also possible that the last words won't mean very much at all. Despite the drama contained within people's final utterances, there's a good chance they won't be among the famous statesmen's most memorable utterances.

The bloke was a bit busy breathing his last, after all.
