Mykonos bar leaves Greek tourists furious after they see bill for two cocktails

There's nothing quite like sipping a cocktail while soaking up the rays. But one group of tourists were left furious after receiving their bill at a beachfront bar in Greece.

We are all grappling with the cost of living and are used to rising prices in restaurants these days, but one reviewer hit out at the DK Oyster venue, on Platis Gialos beach, in Mykanos, after being handed their receipt.

It isn't the first time the bar and restaurant has been in the headlines. Tourists hit out in rage last year after claiming to have been charged €1000 (£861) for just three dishes.

One couple also nearly called the police after they said they had been charged close to €600 for pasta dishes and smoothies, with over €100 of that coming from the service charge.

But another tourist who also visited, then hit out in fury online sharing a picture of their receipt on Tripadvisor.

According to the image, they had ordered two 1L drinks, including a margarita, at the cost of €58 (£49) a piece.

The reviewer posted: "Free beds haha yes once installed the menu arrives you have to order a drink for 58 euros each and now pay!

"Honestly a nice place that could make a fortune. Help people to be vigilant and ask for their wrong drink price before sitting down."

However, a picture of the menu posted back in 2023 showed how 1L cocktails were all priced at around €58 - so that shouldn't have come as much of a shock to the customer.

Tourists issued warning

DK Oyster, in Mykonos, has quite a reputation. It's described as an all-day entertainment venue and offers guests the opportunity to enjoy waterfront food and drinks; with pictures showing ocean-front access, stunning views and high quality food.

However one thing which would appear to be absent from their website are the prices, which a quick browse of TripAdvisor then appears to reveal.

It has gained such a reputation that the Independent visited the restaurant last month to scope out the venue and see if it lives up to its prices.

Many other reviews have previously warned other tourists over visiting. "BEWARE and avoid this place," a review from Lori E, read, before accusing the bar of charging them $876 (£690) for two drinks which were advertised at €51 (£42) each.

And US tourist Amber Pace claimed she and a friend were charged £450 for a meal and drinks.

DK Oyster manager Dimitrios Kalamaras previously defended the restaurant and issued a statement to the Sun, which read: "Our sunbeds require minimum consumption, so we encourage all visitors to check the menus before placing their orders.

"I would like to note that our menus are displayed on blackboards near the entrance, showing the prices of our food and drinks to keep our guests informed.

"In DK Oyster, we have advertised in the ways we consider suitable for our restaurant, and we will not succumb to the influencers who have been attracted to the beautiful island of Mykonos.

"We believe that the value of the offered experience is high and we have no intention to explain why we charge more than a supermarket or a traditional taverna, which can be quite wonderful but is surely a completely different concept than ours."
