Tenant fuming after landlord sends Spotify Wrapped parody 'Renting Year in Review'

Tenant fuming after landlord sends Spotify Wrapped parody 'Renting Year in Review'

Because nothing says Merry Christmas like finding out how much money you've spent

Earlier this month, our Instagram feeds were overloaded with people sharing their favourite songs of the year.

Wow, cool, you like Arctic Monkeys. Good for you. But I don’t need to see your entire Spotify Wrapped.

Every year when the music streaming site releases our listening data, we all get swept up in the trends and genres that define us.

And it seems more and more companies are picking up on it too – look Monzo, I really didn’t need to know how many times I’ve been to Maccies in 2023.

But of all the people to released a ‘wrapped’, it didn’t need to be landlords.

Yes, those people who take an enormous chunk from our bank accounts every month – usually for the honour of a single little room.

And one tenant is absolutely fuming after their landlord sent them a ‘Renting Year in Review’.

Because nothing says, ‘Merry Christmas’ like ‘here’s how much money I got from you’.

I'd rather not know to be honest.

Anyone whose renting in London will know that it’s pretty rough at the moment so to have it all laid out for you in a Spotfiy Wrapped parody isn’t particularly festive.

User @ldnitalia wrote on X: “Spotify wrapped has ruined everything istg.

“What is my landlord waffling about bro.”

They then shared a screenshot of a text from their landlord to ‘please see below your 2023 Renting Year Wrapped’.

“You paid rent 12 times this year! That’s £28,700,” it reads.

“You also paid your bills 12 times! That’s £850. You paid £430 in council tax this year! That’s your local authority kept happy.

“We visited the flat 6 times this year! That’s an average of once every 2 months.

“We updated the fire alarm system once, and installed new fire doors this year! That’s your safety even more guaranteed with us.”

And the landlord then ended with: “Here’s to 2024! Have a wonderful festive period, and we’ll check in early in the New Year.”

Yeah, Merry Christmas.

I mean, sure, they might have just been trying to have some innocent fun but users pointed out that it feels ‘patronising’ just to read.

One wrote: “I’m crying this is so creative but I’d have to block him after this,” as the poster hilariously responded: “Nah like it’s the fact it’s so creative that’s p**sing me off man. Where’s this creativity with decreasing the rent my guy?”

Another pointed out: “No because why are they drawing attention to how much you’ve spent.

"Nobody wants to be thinking about that.”
