A Russian bodybuilder who was dubbed 'Popeye' after inflating his biceps to cartoonish proportions has undergone surgery to remove them.

It's not the first time that Kirill Tereshin has had to seek medical help for his artificial muscles - which he achieved by injecting them with oil - but hopefully, it might be the last.

The 28-year-old influencer used a dangerous DIY method to bulk up his triceps and biceps for a number of years, that involved injecting his arms with petroleum jelly.

He pumped them up with about three litres of the stuff, before doctors warned that he was doing irreparable damage to his body.

According to the Daily Star, Tereshin also administered a homemade concoction which is similar to site enhancement oils - which increase muscle volume but not strength - into his arms, too.

As a result of his bootleg bulking method, the Russian national has now been left with a pair of deformed limbs.

But on Wednesday (4 June), Tereshin announced that he had undergone a procedure to get rid of his botched biceps.

He shared two snaps with his 264,000 Instagram followers which showed him flexing his malformed muscles alongside the caption: "Surgery to remove the biceps."

Tereshin - who has also been nicknamed 'Bazooka Hands' - could be seen sporting a bandage around his left arm, which appeared to be oozing with blood.

It is not clear whether the images were taken before or after the operation, however, further posts from Tereshin show his arms have undergone a dramatic transformation in just a matter of days.

His biceps appeared to be a lot less pumped up than we're used to seeing them, and in one video, he mimed a cutting motion to the camera before pointing to his shrunken muscles.

Social media users were extremely glad to see Tereshin taking his health seriously, especially given that he was previously warned he was running the risk of having his arms amputated.

One person commented: "Good choice brother."

Another wrote: "I wish your surgery is a success and you recover."

A third added: "Have you finally come to your senses?"

A fourth wrote: "Beautiful, that's what we want to see."

And a fifth chimed in saying: "Brother, it's time to step away from social media and become a regular person. You'll be far better off."

Tereshin previously revealed he began pumping his arms full of oil in a bid to attract 'beautiful' women, as he believed it was 'impossible for an ordinary guy to date such girls.'

He also splashed $15,000 on various cosmetic tweaks, including facial filler.
