Peaky Blinders Named Best TV Show Of The Last Decade

The epic BBC drama - which follows Birmingham's ultra-violent Shelby family gang and their exploits - topped a poll of LADbible Twitter users, which saw more than 29,000 people pick their favourite show of the last ten year.

Peaky Blinders got 29.4 percent of the vote - as did nearest rival Breaking Bad - but the British show beat its US rival by a handful of votes.

Game of Thrones finished third with 27.4 percent of the vote, followed by Sky and HBO's 2019 series Chernobyl.

Peaky Blinders returned to our screens earlier this year for its fifth series - as Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) moved into the world of politics to face his toughest foe yet: far-right fascist Oswald Mosely (Sam Claflin). It ends with a failed assassination attempt as Shelby spirals further out of control.

The final four shows made their way into the final showdown after a week of polls.

Game of Thrones was the first show to make the last four after winning its group with 70 percent of the 7,700 votes - despite lots of fans feeling let down by its final season.

Breaking Bad - which follows the misadventures of accidental meth dealers Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) - saw off Stranger Things, Black Mirror and the This is England trilogy with 57 percent of the 11,500 votes in their group.

Chernobyl - which tells the real life tale of the 1986 nuclear reactor meltdown in the Ukrainian town of Pripyat - made its way out of the tightest group off all, taking 32 percent of more than 11,000 votes, ahead of Line of Duty (27 percent), Sons of Anarchy (21 percent) and Luther (20 percent).

Peaky Blinders made light work of its group though, taking more than half of the 16,000 votes cast. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was it's nearest rival with 28 percent, followed by Killing Eve and The End of the F***ing World.

The sixth season of the Birmingham gangster series hasn't started filming yet, but Anthony Byrne - who directed the fifth season - said in October that he was going to officially start working on the show in November

That means we're probably looking at a 2021 release date.

Fortunately, series six isn't the final series of Peaky Blinders. It has always been pegged as the penultimate series.

Steven Knight has previously claimed that he plans for the seventh to be the last series, because he envisages Tommy Shelby will have reached the end of his 'journey' and become a good man by then.

Naturally, Knight warned that there's a 'lot of darkness' to come first, though.
