An influencer in the US has opened up about the botched Botox that left her with a droopy eyelid.

Whitney Buha, from Chicago, usually gets Botox about twice a year - but following a recent appointment, it quickly became apparent that something had gone wrong.

Six days later she returned to have it fixed, but over the days that followed it only got worse.

"I was getting scared that a) this was going to be permanent or b) this was going to really affect my eyes or my vision long term," Whitney told BuzzFeed News.

It transpired that she had ptosis, a complication characterised by a droopy eyelid. It typically occurs when the Botox fluid seeps from its intended muscle into a nearby muscle that controls the eyelid.

Her non-droopy eye started to bulge a bit too, as it overcompensated for the other eye.

This wasn't the desired outcome.

Thankfully for Whitney, the condition is reversible, and she's actually had further Botox in a bid to speed up her recovery process - as advised by a local medical spa.

She's also consulted a plastic surgeon - who told her the eyelid droop was the worst they'd ever seen - and has been trying all sorts of home remedies, such as steaming and massaging.

Whitney has chronicled the ordeal on her Instagram, causing her follower count to swell.

On one post, she wrote: "In all honesty this is super embarrassing and makes me extremely self-conscious about my face, but since there's nothing I can do about it, I might as well laugh it off for now," while in a video she explained she would simply 'have to wait it out'.

As for the public reaction, she told BuzzFeed News: "People are so invested in this and want to know what's happening.

"I feel like the year that we've all had, it's just been such a crazy year and it's not been a great year for anybody.

"So this was kind of another thing that I'm like, 'Well, this is just something that's happening, and we're just going to get past it.'"

And as you might expect - given that she has had further Botox to remedy the botched Botox - Whitney hasn't let the experience put her off getting Botox again in the future.

She said: "If you have Botox and it's done right, I love it.

"It looks great. It makes me feel better."
