Man Gets Promotion For Hard Work Then Calls In Sick After Celebrating

Tell me you're British without telling me you're British

How's this for a show of pure Britishness? Meet the man who received a pay rise for hard work - then ended up calling in sick after celebrating with a bevvy or two.

It's all detailed in this hilarious text exchange between a boss and his employee, which was shared on Reddit, and it shows absolute top-tier management skills.

The post read: "Gave a guy at work a good pay rise for hard work and this is the message I got the next day, this is how you know you're British."

The screenshot shows the employee texting his boss to say: "Morning. Sorry about this but may I take today as leave? I had a drink last night to celebrate and I went overboard, got drunk, now sick as a dog. Bad hangover, not going to clear for hours I can feel it. Is leave today OK mate?"

Some might call it cheek, but the pure honesty of the message left the boss in a surprisingly good mood.

He replied: "Absolutely, you totally deserve it and for the record, that reason you need the holiday is the greatest reason ever."

Take note, bosses of the UK - this is how you lead a team.

Unsurprisingly, the post got a pretty positive response, with One Redditor replying: "This is brilliant. I love the honesty between you guys.

"Reminds me of my first boss when I got my first job. I was supposed to be working the day after my final end of year dance at high school.

"We got along really well, so I decided to be honest and ask for the day off because I was gonna be out drinking that night and I wouldn't be in a great state to work. He laughed and said he would've done the exact same, and gladly gave me the day off."

Another simply said: "The true British way is to turn up hungover. I'm really good at it."

It is a skill, to be fair.

However, not everyone's boss is this understanding - one woman in particular was left red-faced after making an absolute howler of a mistake.

Roberta Clark, 20, from Drumchapel in Scotland, accidentally texted her boss a photo of a bottle of champagne at a party, just moments after she'd told him she wouldn't be able to make it into work due to the bad weather.

Moments after sending the text saying she wouldn't be able to make it in, Roberta then sent a shot of a bottle of Champagne, chilling in an ice bucket, alongside the words: "Dare me to pop it?"

But instead of pinging it to its intended recipient, Roberta accidentally sent her to boss.

Spotting her clanger, Roberta then quickly came clean - replying: "I'm so sorry I meant to forward that on to someone else.

"I'm at a baby reveal I'm so sorry was not meant for you."

So, so awkward.
