Helena Bonham Carter has revealed the real reason why she never married former partner Tim Burton.
The Harry Potter actor was famously in a relationship with Burton, who is widely considered to be the father of modern gothic cinema thanks to films such as Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, for well over a decade.
Burton and Bonham Carter would go on to welcome two children together before going their separate ways in 2014, but not before sharing several insights into their unique relationship dynamics.
This includes living in two conjoined houses in London and never getting married.

Now, of course, being in a long-term relationship and sharing children together doesn't mean you have to get married, this isn't the 1600s after all! However, many couples still do – whether it be for love or tax benefits.
So, why did The Crown actor opt out of holy matrimony?

Turns out, she's simply not a fan of marriage as a concept.
"I've never actually gotten married because I can't honestly make that promise because I just don't think it's a healthy one," the 59-year-old actor explained during an interview on Bella Freud's Fashion Neurosis podcast earlier this week.
Which is fair enough, as pledging to bind yourself to someone 'until death do us part' is a pretty big ask.
Bonham Carter also referenced her ADHD diagnosis as another reason why she's never made it down the aisle, saying the diagnosis has often been a challenge in relationships.
"I've got ADHD, so the idea of organising a wedding... I mean, it would both be a great thing, but I would be so flipping obsessive about every single choice, It would just be like, oh my god," she added.
Bonham Carter and Burton got together after meeting on the set of 2001's Planet of the Apes, which he directed and she starred.

The 13-year relationship would see them welcome son Billy, 22, and daughter Nell, 17, before separating – something which Bonham Carter refers to as a 'divorce'.
Despite the breakup, Burton and Bonham Carter have remained on good terms, with actor telling Vanity Fair the relationship was a 'gift'.
"Sometimes you’re not meant to be forever together. Sometimes you have to come to terms with the fact that that was it. But that was a gift, a massive gift. We gave each other children and a lot more else," she said.
Since the separation, the Corpse Bride star has found love with Norwegian art historian Rye Dag Holmboe, with whom she is said to have been in a relationship with since 2018.
Meanwhile, Burton was most recently in a relationship with Italian actor Monica Bellucci, with the former couple breaking up earlier this year.
