When anyone tunes in to watch I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, we all know that in actual fact we are tuning in to see minor celebrities chow down on kangaroo bollocks and get covered in all sorts of horrible shit for our enjoyment.
However, it seems as if there is a limit to what the British public will put up with. Last night saw Emily Atack and Malique Thompson-Dwyer stuck in some form of adapted medieval torture chamber (with a tenuous X Factor theme) with their mouths clamped open.
They were then forced to sing whilst a variety of horrible things rained down upon them. There were even some horrific biting ants thrown in there for good measure.
While it was very funny - it was, you can admit it - some people have suggested that perhaps the powers that down at I'm a Celeb have taken it a bit too far this time.
Inbetweeners star Emily Atack seemed genuinely distressed throughout the task and kept screaming while she was singing. The pair did quite well at the task, and their fellow campers guessed the songs they were singing correctly, but it looked pretty unpleasant.
This raises the question of whether it is OK to subject people to what is effectively torture for the voyeuristic enjoyment of the nation.
After all, the celebrities (barring Noel Edmonds) are people too, are they not?
