With less than a week until the big day, it's definitely time to get cosy on the sofa and watch festive films until our brains turn to tinsel. With that in mind, is there a better Christmas film than Elf?

The 2003 hit was recently voted the best family Christmas movie of all time - and it's easy to see why. After all, it has everything, and even its star Will Ferrell himself admits to getting all sniffly when it comes to one particularly heart-warming scene.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, the 51-year-old funnyman said that even 15 years since the film's release, he's been known to get choked up at moment where a crowd of people sitheng 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town' in Central Park.

It's a pivotal moment in the film - Saint Nick's sleigh crashes in the park due to a shortage of Christmas spirit, but the communal sing-along generates enough festive vibes for it to take off.

Will said: "When Buddy is in the back of the sleigh and everyone is singing in Central Park and there's enough Christmas spirit to get it lifted off, I'm like, 'Oh, I can't let everyone see me cry here at my own movie.'"

Don't worry Will, we're there with you - the scene is just one of the film's many amazing moments.

Another favourite of the actor's is the moment Buddy excitedly shouts 'Santa' in Gimbels' department store, thinking he's about to bump into his old pal and little realising it's one of the big man's 'helpers' (© your Nan, every time you asked if the man in the grotto was the genuine article).

Will said: "That was just my articulation of Buddy just getting this piece of news. A man without a country, in this strange land finally getting to see someone he knows really well, and it would just be the most jubilant reaction."

This all comes just days after Ranker put the festive comedy at the top of the list for best Christmas Family Film, followed by Home Alone, The Polar Express and The Nightmare Before Christmas, with The Santa Clause coming in fifth.

As well as Will Ferrell, the movie also stars James Caan (Las Vegas) and Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer). It focuses on Ferrell's character Buddy, one of Santa's elves, who travels from the North Pole to meet his biological father.

The film was only given a $33 million budget, so it didn't heavily rely of CGI - even during scenes set in the North Pole, the tried their best to use forced perspective to create the height and size difference between Buddy and the other elves.

While in New York City, the production company didn't book off streets or hire loads of extras for the streets; instead they filmed it very 'independent film' style, the director stated.

It truly is an amazing film and you'd be a bit of a - in the words of Buddy - 'cotton-headed ninny muggins' to not think so.
