There are few horrors that have surpassed the likes of The Silence of the Lambs and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but this one just might.

According to fans, who watched the early screenings of this terrifying flick, it had them ‘on the verge of tears’ throughout.

Starring Nicolas Cage, the film, which is set in the 90s, follows a serial killer and FBI agent called Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) as she tries to catch him in his Satanic ritual.

Now, this isn’t just some regular serial killer story, movie-goers have said that it’s so unnerving that it’s ‘psychologically scarring’.

For anyone that truly enjoys having the s**t scared out of them, then Longlegs is for you.

Directed by Oz Perkins, who was the mastermind behind Gretel & Hansel, Longlegs follows Cage on his rampage which will leave you terrified about any noise in the night.

There’s no denying that the movie has already made an impact well before its official release.

Writing on X Matt Neglia, editor of Next Best Picture, said Longlegs is ‘one of the best serial killer films in recent memory’ and it shows an ‘unnerving descent into hell that will haunt your mind and soul’.

If that’s not enough to scare you, I don’t know what is.

Another fan raved: "Longlegs is the best serial killer horror film since The Silence of the Lambs."

While one person said: “Oz Perkins infuses dread/terror into every single frame. Utterly terrifying and unsettling, Maika Monroe is hypnotic, while Nicolas Cage will haunt your nightmares.”

But it’s not just the cinema where you’ll feel the effects of this horror, as apparently it’ll follow you home too.

Someone else wrote: “Saw Longlegs this morning and now I’m just supposed to... carry on with my day? It’s like Osgood Perkins saw Silence of the Lambs and thought, ‘Nah, not f***ed up enough for me.’”

Cage’s transformation into a serial killer isn’t something you’ll see in the trailer, and it’s more like ‘driving people towards a freak show at a circus tent’, according to the director.

Perkins told told Entertainment Weekly: "We’ve got the thing behind the curtain, and when there’s enough people gathered around, we’re going to pull the curtain."

Cage added: “It’s the equivalent of putting a warning label on a jar of nitroglycerin.

"The monster is a highly, highly dangerous substance. The way it’s moved, unveiled, deployed has to be treated very carefully.

“Forget about the movie theater blowing up; the whole city could blow up, nay the country, maybe even the world. He is going to change your reality. Your doors of perception are going to open, and your life is not going to be the same.”

No truer words have been spoken.

Longlegs is set to hit UK cinemas on 12 July, which is the same day US audiences will get to enjoy it too.
