Spider-Man: Brand New Day sets up Sadie Sink's MCU future with easter-egg many missed

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has managed to keep Sadie Sink’s role under wraps ever since she was announced to be joining the cast in March of last year.

Sink joined the MCU right off the back of the end of Stranger Things, jumping from one of the world’s biggest franchises to the undeniable single biggest franchise in the world.

Co-starring alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal, Sink’s role was kept more or less a secret until it was leaked just the day before the film was set to be released in a red carpet slip up by Steve Lacy, who produced a song for the film.

Sadie Sink in Spider-Man as Jean Grey (Disney)

Sadie Sink’s role was, as many have theorised for a year but couldn’t quite believe, Jean Grey, introducing the iconic X-Men character to the MCU for the first time.

Sink managed to keep it quiet but, as Lacy said in his interview, she ended up being the villain of the movie and even teamed up with Spider-Man (right before he got shot whilst protecting her by The Punisher)

Though Kevin Feige and Marvel have not yet announced any of the cast for Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men film, a detail in Spider-Man: Brand New Day clearly sets up the upcoming movie.

An easter egg you probably missed tells you where Jean is heading at the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

After Peter is shot Jean saves him, keeping him alive long enough for The Punisher to rush him to the hospital. Amidst the chaos though she slips away, leaving on a bus and escaping before the government or police find her.

Whilst a few fans online have noticed this, it is such a subtle detail that your average viewer will have missed it, but she appears to be heading towards upstate New York.

One fan tweeted: “I know y’all saw the direction her bus was going.”

If you aren’t quite nerdy enough to get the significance – Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, aka the X-Mansion, is based in Westchester, New York in the comics.

Another fan tweeted: “My first and only thought was she was heading to the x-mansion... Tbf I was expecting them to set up Jean going to Xavier's school for gifted youngsters by the end so I'm glad they teased it.”

This may be jumping on breadcrumbs, but for fans who haven’t had a proper X-Men film in seven years (and haven’t had a good one in 12) this tease has had super-fans hyped online.

Peter and Jean may have ended the film as friends, but fans think the X-Men are going to end up hating Spider-Man

At the end of the film Peter and Jean agree to look out for each other and not be alone anymore, but fans online have already begun making memes about how Peter is going to go down in the mutant history books, and it won’t be positive.

Throughout the film Peter struggles with his growing mutations, leading him to create a chip which suppresses his powers to a controllable level. He then uses this ‘universal chip’ on Jean to stop her powers and catch her when he still thinks she’s a villain rather than just a misunderstood hero.

For anyone who’s ever watched an X-Men film, you can probably put two and two together on why ‘chip that can control or even stop mutant powers’ isn’t going to ingratiate Peter to them.

One fan tweeted a picture of Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, where the character has to come to terms with the evil that was caused by his creation. They posted: “There’s a moment in Spider-man Brand New Day where peter does/says something that will FOR SURE have big implications and have peter feeling like this in a couple years. very smart way it was written in.”
