Alfred Molina is reprising his role as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor previously played Otto Octavius, a scientist who becomes the eight-limbed villain, in 2004's Spider-Man 2.

Rumours the 67-year-old would be returning began to circulate last month after he was reportedly spotted on set.

Jamie Foxx is also expected to reprise his role as Electro in the upcoming Spidey film, which is due to be released next December.

In October, Foxx shared a picture to Instagram in which he all but confirmed he is returning to the role - though he subsequently deleted the post.

Asked whether he would be playing the character once again, he recently told Cinemablend: "You're absolutely right, I can't speak on it. But if I'm in it, I'll be so happy."

Benedict Cumberbatch is also expected to reprise his role as Doctor Strange.

Tom Holland will take on the lead role, as he did in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

The 24-year-old touched down in Atlanta to begin shooting in October.

A few reports indicated that filming minus the main man had already begun.

Earlier in October, Jeremy Conrad - a Marvel tipster whose insider scoops have earned him an impressive following - said that Spider-Man 3 had begun shooting its first scenes.

Entertainment news site Collider also cited 'a filming listing posted in NYC' and 'some particularly snoopy Twitter posts' which lend weight to the possibility that some filming may have taken place in Queens, New York.

This Twitter post, featuring the widely-rumoured working title Serenity Now, supported the claim:

As for what we can expect from the film itself, we don't really know a great deal yet.

Holland has described the story of the new film as 'absolutely insane'; presumably he meant that in a good way.

All being well, we should be able to see for ourselves in the not too distant future.
