Clarkson's Farm's hidden 'subliminal' message explained in typical Jeremy style

The message came in the Clarkson's Farm finale

Clarkson’s Farm fans watching the final two episodes of the latest season may have been left confused after an unexpected image flashed across the screen.

However, the presenter has since taken to X to explain it.

This had many wondering if there was a glitch in their screens, but instead it was a hidden ‘subliminal’ message put in by the former Top Gear host.

The ‘glitch’ occurred just as Clarkson was discussing the many struggles of being a farmer towards the end of the finale.

In discussing this on Clarkson's Farm, the presenter said, ‘you keep going because you believe next year couldn't possibly be any worse’, before a picture of Rachel Reeves suddenly flashes up on screen.

Why did Clarkson’s Farm show a single frame of Rachel Reeves mid-episode?

With Clarkson’s claim that the following year ‘could not possibly get any worse’, the quick image of Reeves foreshadowed what is sure to be a major plot point in season five of the hit TV show.

Season four ends in around September of 2024 following the opening of Clarkson’s ‘The Farmer’s Dog’ pub.

In October of 2024 Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced the first budget of the new Labour government.

With it came a number of reforms, including ones which massively changed the inheritance tax of farmers - ones that were incredibly unpopular with Clarkson.

He confirmed yesterday on social media what many assumed, that this was the reason for the picture of Rachel Reeves showing at the end of the fourth season.

What has Clarkson said about the picture of Rachel Reeves in Clarkson’s Farm, and what has she done?

Clarkson responded to someone asking about the ‘subliminal messaging’ of including her, saying very simply: “She has f*cked the farmers.”

This is not the first time that Clarkson has spoken out against Reeves or Labour’s planned changes to farmer’s inheritance tax.

Previously, farms were protected on inheritance tax for assets valued above £1 million - something that Reeves changed.

Instead, they will be taxed at a 20 percent rate above £1 million, half the standard rate and interest free across ten years. This is set to take effect in April of 2026.

This spawned mass protests, amongst which Clarkson was included, with many claiming that family farms would be lost due to the changes.

Speaking about this, Clarkson even revealed that he felt the ones most affected by this incoming tax were those that his show was potentially harming.

He agreed in an interview with the idea that rural poverty is hidden and that Clarkson’s Farm helps continue this narrative.

He said: “One of the problems we have on the show is we’re not showing the poverty either, because obviously on Diddly Squat there isn’t any poverty. But trust me, there is absolute poverty. I’m surrounded by farmers. I’m not going out for dinner with James Dyson.

“It’s people with 200 acres, 400 acres. Way past Rachel Reeves’s threshold. They are f*cked.”
