Viewers of a new murder mystery have dubbed the show 'the best series' from the BBC in 'years', raving about the six-part comedy online.

It feels like there's new TV shows popping up left, right and centre nowadays, and with so many streaming platforms to choose from, it's easy to get overwhelmed.

However, the idea of a murder mystery with a comedic element is one that is rare in the first place, and it is even rarer for it to be executed well - but it looks like the BBC has done it with its brand-new take on the genre.

Starring Peep Show's David Mitchell, the actor takes on the role of puzzle-designer John 'Ludwig' Taylor, who must impersonate his successful twin brother, Detective Chief Inspector James Taylor, to solve the mystery behind his sudden disappearance.

Alongside Mitchell is Anna Maxwell Martin, best known for her roles on Line of Duty and Motherland, and Dipo Ola from We Hunt Together, among others.

The series - called Ludwig - was only released on 25 September but fans have already taken to social media to sing its praises and their hope for a second season.

If you haven't seen the trailer, you can take a peak here:

Mitchell has been praised for his role as the titular character in Ludwig, bringing his usual comedic timing and wit to the fore, which viewers have not missed out on.

Taking to X, one user posted: "OMG, what a ride #Ludwig is. So pleased it is all set up for a second series, please #BBC let’s have more. And @RealDMitchell what a brilliant role and delivery. Well done all involved."

A second shared: "Please watch Ludwig on BBC, absolutely superb, one of the best programmes they’ve produced."

Another wrote: "We have just watched the final episode of Ludwig. I hope upon hope that there will be a follow-on series because this was one of the very best programmes the BBC has produced. Absolutely brilliant (obviously) - many thanks."

A fourth also praised the broadcaster for the dramedy series, adding: "Ludwig has to be the best series the BBC has made in years. Fantastic cast and can't wait for series 2."

It's fair to say that demand for a Ludwig follow-up is sky-high, though nothing has been confirmed just one week after its release.

Nonetheless, with critics comparing Ludwig to the iconic Mark Corrigan himself, Peep Show fans will have a field day if they give the series a viewing.

The next episode of Ludwig will air on Wednesday (9 October) at 9pm on BBC One, however if you're too impatient to wait, the full series is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
