A shopper has ripped into supermarkets checking receipts after using self-checkout.

The disgruntled customer penned an open letter to Kmart, Coles, Woolworths and Bunnings on a popular Facebook group, panning staff for quite literally checking receipts, as per Daily Mail.

The post begins: "Dear Woolies, Coles, Bunnings warehouse, Kmart etc. and all other stores that have self-checkout — and now Aldi. You are almost exclusively self-checkout now.

"The last time I was at Bunnings, the lady checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone.

"I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, so I just skipped the exit line and left."

However, a staff member at Bunning wasn't letting the shopper off that easily.

It added: "I heard her saying, ‘Umm - Excuse me?’ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store."

But the customer didn't let this stop in their tracks.

Their open letter adds: "You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be.

"I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you.

"If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine.

"Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities. YOU DON'T PAY ME TO SCAN MY OWN SHOPPING.

"YOU DON’T GIVE ME STAFF DISCOUNT FOR WORKING FOR YOU.

"Signed......All of us."

My god, hell hath no fury when shopper has access to a keyboard.

The letter had a mixed response from users.

One person wrote: "Calm down old fella. I think it’s time for you to go to bed."

Another said: "I still shop online. There's too many people out there!"

A third commented: "I'm with you."

While another shared: "I love how people refuse to show their receipts/demand to be served. You’re teaching the company nothing, all you’re doing is making a retail worker’s day a bit shorter."

A spokesperson for Woolworths responded to the letter to Yahoo! News, explaining that the supermarket provides multiple ways for customers to shop.

"We’re focused on providing our customers with multiple ways to shop with us, given their ever-changing needs," the statement reads.

"Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, many customers opted for safer and more convenient ways to complete their shop which include self service checkouts."
