The First Photos Of Blackpool Pleasure Beach's New Ride Look Terrifying

The first photos of Icon, the brand new roller coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach that's set to open later this month, look scary as hell.

No. Just no. And a thousand, million times no. Pictures have emerged of Icon, Blackpool Pleasure Beach's new £16.25 million roller coaster that's set to open and it looks like a clean pants job.

The photos show how the ride will rise to heights of 20 metres and will also cut through the lift hill of the Big One ride. That basically means, after being propelled out of a tunnel, you'll be travelling through the structure of the Big One at speeds of about 50mph. No. Thank. You.

As if that weren't enough, Icon will be the UK's first ever double launch roller coaster, which means daredevils will get two thrusts of acceleration during the ride. Riders will apparently experience the same acceleration as that felt by a Formula 1 driver. Except in the air, which makes it infinitely worse.

We're buzzing just looking at the photos and writing about it, but Amanda Thompson, the managing director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach - which was the second most popular theme park in the UK last year - seems massive about it.

"This is a key milestone in the build which marks the first in a series of thrilling interactions to guarantee riders a truly exhilarating experience," she told The Sun.

"We're looking forward to visitors getting their very first glimpse of Icon when our doors open on February 10."

In addition to cutting through The Big One, ride will also snake its way around 14 of the park's other rides, and will include drops of almost 25 metres. Which, once again, is a big no from us.

The ride is being introduced in the wake of one of the Pleasure Beach's oldest rides - the wooden roller coaster known as Wild Mountain - being demolished 60 years after it first launched. Which - let's be honest - is probably for the best, because a lot can happen in six decades.

We'll be waiting that long until Icon meets the same fate. Nah, we're only kidding. It looks awesome. We can't wait for it to open.
