Amazon Is Adding Samuel L. Jackson's Voice To Alexa

If you love your Amazon Alexa but really wish it was just a little bit cooler, then I have some wonderful news for you. Pretty soon you'll be to have your virtual assistant respond to you in Samuel L. Jackson's voice. What a time to be alive.

Amazon announced the introduction of a number of new celebrity voices at its annual hardware event today - including none other than Nick Fury himself.

Even more interesting than the fact you can enjoy having Jackson reciting your favourite movie quotes while in your house, is the news that Amazon will be using neural text-to-speech technology to recreate his voice rather than making the star say every word in the dictionary into a recorder. Clever, eh?

Jackson's Alexa personality will be available to buy later this year for just $0.99 (80p) and you'll be able to choose from either clean or the explicit, sweary version - how do you like that, mother f******?

To get started, you'll need to buy the pack and then ask: "Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson." Alexa will then ask if you want the R-18 or family-friendly version and once you've picked you can ask 'Jackson' a number of fun commands.

The examples given at today's event included: "Alexa, ask Samuel L. Jackson where he is from"; "Alexa, ask Sam to wake me up at 7 a.m."; and "Alexa, ask Sam Jackson to sing happy birthday."

Sadly, Amazon has said the celebrity voices won't be able to read out things such as diary reminders or shopping lists - but for 80p what more do you want?

Also at the event Amazon announced a whole list of brand-new exciting tech including the Echo Loop which is an Alexa-enabled smart ring you wear on your finger and Echo Frames - Alexa enabled glasses that look almost exactly like normal glasses and not as clunky a previous 'wearables'.

There's even a smart oven - yep, I s*** you not, Amazon's Smart Oven which can be controlled using your voice with an Alexa speaker and comes with 'dozens' of presets to help cook common foods. It'll even shout up and let you know when something needs stirring. Anyone else super impressed?
