A couple who have been forced to rearrange their wedding twice due to the coronavirus are now set to get hitched in McDonald's.

Melissa Russell and Shannon McKenna, from Scotland, have saw their wedding plans fall apart twice in just 12 weeks because of the pandemic.

The couple don't want to have to postpone their wedding again, as Melissa's dad health is failing and they don't want him to miss their big day.

So, now they will have the formal part of their wedding at Chatelherault Country Park before holding the reception at McDonald's in Motherwell, where Melissa has worked for the last six years.

The newlyweds and their small group of guests will tuck into Big Macs, mozzarella dippers and ice cream - sounds good to me.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Melissa said: "We're so grateful to Kate [Walker the franchise holder] for hosting us and our small party on such a special day.

"It's not the day we'd imagined, but we're over the moon to be spending the reception at the Motherwell restaurant. It will certainly be one to remember.

"I've worked at McDonald's for six years now and have made many happy memories there, as well as friends for life, so I'm excited to spend the evening there with my loved ones.

"I can't wait to become Mrs McKenna."

An equally chuffed Shannon added: "We've been looking forward to this day for so long.

"We've had so much back and forth, with venues and dates having to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions - we're just delighted Kate and her team have agreed to host our special day.

"It's so important to us that Mel's dad can see us get married and McDonald's have helped make that possible."

Kate will close up the restaurant at 5pm, before letting in the wedding party.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Kate said it was 'an absolute pleasure' to be able to offer up the premises to the happy couple.

She added: "We were delighted when they asked us to use the restaurant, especially after hearing the trouble they'd had trying to secure a venue and a date.

"Mel has been a valued part of my team for six years now and it's great to be able to give something back as a thank you for all her hard work."

Congratulations, guys!
