TikTok user Linda revealed recently that she and her hubby had bought matching swimming costumes for a trip away, complete with pineapple patterns.
However, in a video posted to her account, Linda said she was unaware at the time that pineapples are often used to signal that a couple is up for swinging. Oh dear.
She explained that they were a bit confused as to why people were being 'a little too nice' during their trip.
But Linda and her partner weren't the only ones shocked by the revelation - there were plenty of people in the comments who felt the same.

One user asked: "When did the pineapple start meaning this? I only heard of this a few weeks ago and only because I saw it on TT."
Another wrote: "I thought pineapples meant hospitality. I worked 10 years at an assisted living facility and everything was pineapples."
A third added: "I just realised I made my boyfriend wear a pineapple shirt, and I wore a pineapple dress while on vacation two years ago."

While yet another said: "Our group learnt the same thing while in Hawaii recently, we had no idea."
Some, however, pointed out that it was only if the pineapples were upside down that they signalled a person was a swinger.
To which Linda replied: "Lol my top ones were upside down."
Replying, another user joked: "You both knew, quit playing."

A real life swinger then jumped in and gave a bit more information on the whole thing, explaining that it's a little more tongue-in-cheek than people might think.
They said: "We are lifestyle and have been for years. The pineapple thing is more of a joke.
"We certainly don't assume and definitely don't approach random pineapples."
Still, if you're going on holiday this summer, you might want to be a little more careful with what you wear.
