Dog Forced To Wear Sunscreen After Groomer Cuts Off All His Hair

Dog Forced To Wear Sunscreen After Groomer Cuts Off All His Hair

Nanuk was completely unrecognisable after his 'trim'

A poor dog ended up having to wear sunscreen after a groomer shaved off all of his hair.

The groomer was asked to give Nanuk 'a trim' but ended up leaving the naturally hairy seven-year-old Samoyed looking bald and slightly unusual.

So unusual, in fact, that his owner barely recognised him.

Another consequence of this was that without the usually long coat of white hair, Nanuk was forced to wear a jacket and sunscreen to protect himself from the sunny climate in his Florida home.

Carley Coca, his 28-year-old owner, said that she couldn't help but laugh once she saw what had been done to her dog after she'd asked for a 'trim of his upper coat'.

The haircut was so severe that she walked straight on past him without recognising him when she arrived to pick him up.

It took him nearly a year to grow the entire coat back.

Carley explained: "When I went to pick up Nanuk from the dog groomers, I literally said out loud, 'That's not my dog.'

"The groomer assured me it was Nanuk and I even had to call him to check, but he looked like a complete different breed.

"Nanuk seemed to love the haircut - he acted so proud. But he'd never looked like that before, I was so shocked."

She continued: "Even as a puppy, he'd always been so fluffy. He's got a hilarious personality - he's just one big stubborn goof, and without all his fur?

"I couldn't stop laughing - I remember saying, 'Can you just trim the long hairs off his feet and ears?'

"It was awful really, because the man who had groomed him was obviously so proud of his work, so I felt like I just had to smile and let it go.

Now, as you might imagine, they've started taking Nanuk and their other two pups, Sadie and Mucca, to a different groomer.

Carley and her husband Michael admit that they did find it funny when Nanuk was bald, but were eventually relieved when his full coat of hair was eventually restored.

Carley concluded: "You do have to be careful with Samoyed fur, and they shouldn't be cut like that really, but he was never cold - he honestly seemed to love it.

"Although I did love having to put sunscreen on him, and at one point even a t-shirt to try and protect him."
