Man On His Death Bed Gets One Last Visit From His Best Mate

People underestimate how well man's best friend can understand us when we don't even know it, and that's down to one unique trait

A dying man's devastated dog has visited him in hospital to say his final goodbye to his best friend.

We don't deserve dogs - that much is clearly true. But we actually greatly underestimate how well they understand us and how well we can communicate with them without even knowing it.

Dogs are incredibly intelligent and the relationship between man and man's best friend is one that has developed over thousands of years' worth of human history.

There aren't too many animals that you'd let wander about your home - but more than that, the relationship between humans and dog is based on a unique mutual love and trust.

And it is this relationship between a young man and his dog that makes this tragic case of a man's life cut cruelly short even more tragic.

In an emotional video, the Boxer dog is brought to the bedside of his owner in hospital to say one final goodbye as the man lies unconscious and connected to all manner of hospital equipment.

More cynical viewers might question how much the man's dog actually knows about the situation.

But one contributor to the popular science and technology magazine, American Scientist, points out that dogs have one particular characteristic that makes them unique from their human counterparts and allows them to understand and communicate with us without us even knowing.

They said: "Because of the different bacterias present in our bodies, we can actually smell different - and worse - when we're sick."

In fact, a dog's incredible sense of smell is one of the key explanations for the seemingly telepathic relationship people have with their dogs. They can smell the things responsible for how we feel even if we don't know they're there.

That's why when we arrive back home feeling healthy and happy, your dog's behaviour is likely to reflect that.

And it's why when you're feeling under the weather, your dog might recognise that and be there to comfort you.

That's likely what is happening in the case of this young man and his dog, who can recognise how ill his owner is and visibly reflects that by sadly nudging his chest.

We've said it once and we'll say it again, we don't deserve dogs, people - love them while you can.
