Vinnie Jones is today entering into his seventh year alcohol-free after he quit for the sake of his relationship.

The 55-year-old Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels actor stopped boozing in 2013 and found that he became 'calmer and happier'.

Yesterday (7 April) he took to Twitter to tell fans about his accomplishment:

In response, one fan wrote: "Well done Vinnie, best thing I ever did was quit drinking n I don't miss it one little bit!"

Another replied: "Good stuff Vinnie, I'm 4 years off it 5 on November. It's an insidious snake of a drug".

During an interview with the Mirror back in 2017, Jones said the decision was made in a bid to save his relationship with his wife Tanya who tragically passed away from skin cancer on 6 July last year.

He explained: "More than anything, giving up the booze has made it a lot easier for us and our relationship is a lot more steady."

He went on to say: "I'm annoyed with myself that I didn't give up sooner. At some stage down the road, people will see how bad alcohol is.

"People talk about weed and cocaine, but I think alcohol is the worst. People are putting poison in their bodies, day in, day out and the truth about alcohol has got to come out. It's self-harming.

"Weed is legal over here [Vinnie lives in California], but I've never touched it in my life. The booze was enough for me. I was crazy enough from the booze.

"I was a beer and wine man. Now I'm off it, I'm calmer and happier. I play golf most days, I'm up at 6am. The sun's out and it's gorgeous."

At just 53, Tanya passed away after being treated for three forms of cancer. She was surrounded by Vinnie and five members of her family, including her 32-year-old daughter Kaley.

Both Vinnie and his wife were treated for melanoma, but while Vinnie was given the all-clear, Tanya was hit harder.

She lived out her final days in their Los Angeles home, and Vinnie has ruled out ever falling for anyone again, saying: "She was the light of my life. I will never be with anyone else."
