Grandma Goes Viral With Unexpected Wish In Response To 94th Birthday Cake

A grandma in the US has gone viral after making an unusual wish as she was presented with her 94th birthday cake.

Paige Kidder was serenaded in traditional fashion - however, she evidently wasn't in a celebratory mood.

As the 'Happy Birthday' singalong drew to a close, she said: "Well, thank you very much... I hope this is my last."

The bleak but highly amusing wish was caught on camera by her granddaughter Pauline who shared the video on TikTok, where it has now been viewed more than 13 million times.

Pauline, from Arlington, Virginia, had invited some of her friends along to the party to add a bit of atmosphere, given that Paige has now outlived most of her contemporaries. These guests - including Yasmin Karimy, who can be seen in the background - were taken aback by Paige's macabre remarks, but the family were less surprised.

Speaking to LADbible, 23-year-old Pauline said: "After my grandma said her now-famous quote, 'I hope this is my last', I was not nearly as shocked as my friends were given that she's been jokingly saying this for a few years now. At least, that's what I like to believe is a joke.

"My friends awkwardly chuckled and her sons, my dad and uncle, being used to hearing it, just went about cutting the cake."

But contrary to how the short clip might portray the birthday girl, Pauline assures us her grandma is very much 'full of life'.

She said: "My grandma has a very sharp memory for her age and could tell you stories dating back from when she was a little girl. She is healthy, full of life, and is still very independent. She even drives on her own."

That said, Paige is hardly down with the kids, in the sense that she has no mobile phone or internet. As such, she is completely oblivious to her newfound viral stardom.

Pauline said: "I thought it would be fun to share that video since I felt the same way mostly everyone did: 'Grandma is a mood'. I had absolutely no idea it would be on every social media page and a viral sensation overnight. It was overwhelming. I'm happy that many of the reactions have been so positive and that everyone loves my grandma! I think she deserves that.

"My grandma does not own a cell phone or have internet at her house and doesn't know she's become a viral hit."

Long live Paige, that's what I say.
