A couple were left with an eye-watering bill after reading the menu wrong at one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants in the USA.

Jeffrey Paige and his girlfriend decided that they'd treat themselves to a meal at Gordon Ramsay Steakhouse in Atlantic City last September, but found themselves lumbered with a huge $614 (£441) bill after misinterpreting what the menu said.

He thought he was getting a Triple Seared Japanese A5 - more commonly known as Kobe - steak for $35, but he was actually getting it for $35 per ounce.

That's a significant mistake to make.

Despite that, he says he regrets nothing as it was absolutely delicious.

Here's the menu.

He'd headed out with the specific intention of having some Wagyu beef, but when he spotted what he thought was an incredible deal for the Kobe steak, he opted for that instead.

Jeffrey told MirrorOnline: "I had never had real deal Kobe,

"It was like nothing else you'll ever have. Melt in your mouth delicious. We also ordered a couple of sides, appetizers, and my girlfriend had chef Ramsay's famous beef wellington for the first time ever.

"All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times."

His girlfriend Paige added: "And I still couldn't believe Kobe was cheaper than Wagyu!

"Or so I thought."

When the bill turned up, they got a shock. They went back to double-check the menu, which was when they realised their mistake.

$35 per ounce, not $35 for four ounces.

Oh well.

Posting the story originally on Reddit, Jeffrey joked: "I wish Chef Ramsay was there to come out and call me a donut for f***ing this up lol,

"I enjoyed the hell out of it. No regrets baby!

"My family and I are huge Gordon Ramsay fans, we watch his shows - Hell's Kitchen, Masterchef - and I've been to his restaurants before and loved everything we've gotten,

"The steak and the experience were unforgettable, and if I had to make this blunder at any restaurant in the world, I'm glad it was at Chef Ramsay's."

That's nice, at least he isn't bitter about it. After all, he did manage to enjoy an incredible meal, which he must have thought was an excellent bargain at the time, too.

Gordon Ramsay Steakhouse is situated in Harrah's Resort in Atlantic City, one of the biggest gambling towns in the entire United States.

Jeffrey might have lost his money, but he still won in the end.
