Company Is Live Streaming Pub Quizzes To Keep You Entertained During Coronavirus Outbreak

Amazing idea

Earlier this week Boris Johnson announced new guidelines amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic urging Brits to avoid unnecessary social contact and stay away from pubs, restaurants and bars, which has left some people feeling pretty bored or isolated.

Now one Scottish company has come to the rescue launching a nightly 'pub quiz' you can play along with at home.

Goose's Quizzes has been running for nine years, and due to the new government recommendations of social distancing and avoiding bars, is facing unprecedented times.

However, rather than wallow, the team at Goose's Quizzes has launched play-along-at-home quizzes open to whoever fancies it wherever you are in the world.

Andrew, founder of Goose's Quizzes, told LADbible: "On Monday we stopped all our quizzes, that's about 45 a week, which was our whole income gone.

"I don't mind admitting, I was a bit emotional. I've never been more gutted. We've got five full-time staff members and the whole team was upset.

"But on Tuesday we worked pretty much flat out, so we could do something in the evening. What we knocked out was by no means professional, but we love doing pub quizzes so it meant we could actually run some form of a pub quiz online for people.

"We use Twitch to stream the quiz and Google Forms for people to fill in their answers, then we mark them and reveal the answers the following night."

People have been playing along around the world.

And, unsurprisingly while so many of us are self-isolating or practising social distancing, the 'pub quiz' has been a hit.

Andrew said: "The response we've had has been overwhelming. We've asked people to send in photos of themselves at home playing along and we're getting photos of people in their jarmies, we had a couple of guys who were stood in a queue at Morrisons, just having a great time playing along.

"I think that's what we need - that community. We've had people tune in from all over the world. We're just trying to make the best of the bad situation.

"We're not the best live-streamers or very slick, but I think we're just honest and we like to have a drink and we want everyone else to have a drink why they play along!" You don't have to tell me twice, Andrew.

If you can't make the live stream you can view it on Twitch for 24 hours and still submit your answers via a Google Form before a winner is announced the next day.

And in case you're wondering, it's completely free to join in.

Andrew explained: "We're keeping the quiz free - a lot of people who enjoy the quiz might have just had their income cut or taken away entirely. It's something we don't want to make people to pay enjoy - we're not the worst off in this situation and we're in a position where we can do something that helps people a little bit.

"The support has been incredible, and people have been very grateful that its going on. It makes me emotional, really, it makes you see the better side of this country. It's been an honour to do it each night and we are definitely going to be carrying on."

As for cheating? Well, Andrew explains there's no prizes on offer. So, as my old maths teacher used to say, 'you're only cheating yourself'.

With the future still slightly uncertain for pubs, Andrew isn't sure when he and the team will be back out and about quizzing.

He added: "We have no idea when we'll back in pubs, some people have said it could be as soon as two weeks, but we'll see.

"Until then we'll be doing the quizzes nightly... and if they shut the offices we work at, then we'll do it at home.
