A Russian YouTuber has shown us all what would happen if we mixed 10,000 litres of Coca-Cola with a massive pile of baking soda... in case you were wondering.

Vlogger Maxim Monakhov, known as Mamix, managed to create an incredible explosion after mixing the two items together, like so many people have done before, but on a much, much bigger scale.

The video, which you can see in full here, has racked up more than six million views since it was uploaded on Friday (21 August) and has been been attracting plenty of comments from impressed viewers.

Maxim, and a team of helpers, took themselves off to a field to set up the experiment, which involved a custom-built vat filled with a whopping 10,000 litres of Coke. In the video, huge bucketfuls of Coke can be seen getting poured into the vat.

The vlogger told the camera: "In total, I will spend more than 700,000 rubles [over £7,000] for the video today." Worth every penny if you ask me, mate.

Maxim said the bizarre stunt was more than four years in the making, sharing it on YouTube he added: "We launched 10,000 liters of cola mixed with soda. Yes, it would seem such an absurd and useless thing - but for me it means a lot."

He then added baking soda to create the explosion and what an explosion it was, with him and his team ending up absolutely covered in Coca-Cola.

If you've ever tried this yourself at home, you'll probably be familiar with the reaction but seeing it carried out on this scale is a whole other thing.

The chemical reaction is caused when carbonate in the baking soda reacts with the acidic Coca-Cola to create hydrogen carbonate.

This then very quickly breaks down into water and carbon dioxide and it's this carbon dioxide that causes the explosion.

It is a different reaction to the popular Mentos and Diet Coke one you may have seen doing the rounds a couple of years ago, but it produces fairly similar results to anyone watching.

Anyway, that's enough science for one day - go out and enjoy the sunshine.
