Krispy Kreme reminds Brits how to properly pronounce name in UK

That's us told...

Krispy Kreme is reminding Brits how to pronounce the brand name, putting years of debate to rest.

Ever since the delicious doughnut chain first arrived to the UK, heated arguments have broken out across Britain over how to pronounce the word 'Kreme'.

Because of the unusual spelling UK customers have been pronouncing it as 'crem' or 'crème' for years now.

But the truth is it's actually pronounced 'Krispy Cream'. The company has said it itself, so everyone put your weapons down.

Krispy Kreme decided to put an end to this argument once and for all after LADbible asked the people of Twitter: "What’s a hill you’re willing to die on every time?"

The doughnut supplier's UK branch replied: "It's pronounced "Crispy Cream" NOT "Crispy Crem," with an eye-roll emoji thrown in for good measure.

Twitter

Because of the UK's complicated history with this pronunciation, the tweet had a huge response.

"Finally! I've always wondered," wrote one Twitter user.

"Glad you’ve clarified this," a second celebrated.

"YES THANK THE LORD YOU'VE FINALLY PUT PEOPLE RIGHT," raved a third.

Others, who had been on the other side of the argument, weren't as pleased.

"Should have called the company Krispy Kream then," one complained.

Offering a suggestion we can all agree on, one person suggested: "I think you will find the correct pronunciation is 'delicious.'"

Dead right.

Krispy Kreme's name has caused so much confusion that back in 2017, the company pulled an April Fools Day prank on the British public by announcing that it was officially changing its name to 'Krispy Cream'.

The statement managed to dupe quite a lot of publications (not us, though), and the story ended up making headline news.

In a post to social media the next day, Krispy Kreme UK wrote: "Did we fool you?!

"We're not really changing our brand name to 'Krispy Cream', but the part about our customers mispronouncing our name is absolutely true!

"For future reference we are Krispy Kreme, said 'cream' spelt 'Kreme'."

You best not say Krispy 'Crem' ever again.

Even on the company's website, the number one question at the top of Krispy Kreme's FAQs is: "How do you pronounce Krispy Kreme?"

Just to really hammer this home for you, the answer is: "Pronounced ‘cream’ and spelled ‘Kreme’ - tastes amazing!"

After all that clarification, there's now absolutely no excuse whatsoever for mispronouncing Krispy Kreme ever again.

Unless, of course, you really want to wind their social media team up. If that's the case then have at it.
