Contactless Pool Tables Have Hit Pubs Across The UK

Contactless Pool Tables Have Hit Pubs Across The UK

The future is here, LADs

There are few greater joys than enjoying a bev and taking on your mates in a game of pool - but is there anything more irritating than realising you've got no change to actually play the game?

Good news: that's now a thing of the past, because pool tables that take contactless payments are hitting pubs across the country.

It's a beautiful sight, and thankfully proof has been shared on Twitter in all its glory.

This particular one is in The Billesley in Kings Heath just south of Birmingham, and looks to cost £1 a go. That might seem a bit steep for some of us, but hey, that's the march of progress for you.

The LAD who spotted it told us: "It caught my eye as I'd never seen it before. It's always the case you fancy a game of pool but have no change, so it's a pretty genius idea really."

Genius indeed, and people seemed to agree.

One Twitter user replied saying: "Do you leave your card on the table to show others that you're next on?"

Another guy was clearly ahead of the curve, having actually come up with the idea back in 2017. He was just happy to finally have answers:

A third person went full entrepreneur, commenting: "And you're trackable. Like pool? Sell their data to sports & betting apps, Sky, Bein, Paddy Power... they probably like a drink if they're playing pool in a pub... sell it to brewers, distillers, deliveroo...whoever... 'You want a loan? Your data says you like a drink and a bet...'"

Erm, maybe a bit far and also illegal.

Others were just tagging their mates, thrilled that their change woes were finally solved.

But we couldn't believe that we'd have to travel all the way to the West Midlands to get a bit of the action. A quick search on Facebook revealed that these little gems have been slowly getting introduced to pubs around the UK since last year. What a time to be alive.

For example, the Golden Lion in Bexleyheath has had one since December 2019:

And the Lord Reresby in Rotherham has had one for almost a month:

So there we have it, the future has arrived and it should be in your local sooner than you dared hope.
